By the Lake
[October had been full of annoying letters. Each and every one of them from his family. Some of them were howlers, some of the regular letters. Shiraishi's stress levels had started to skyrocket by then.
They could just give up and leave him alone. Yet his sister just kept insisting on his return, trying to make him come out of his own will and make amends. "I know you're better than this" was a repeated sentence in every letter.
It's morning when he receives one more letter that finally has the words: "I'm telling our parents. You're coming home whether you want it or not". Ever since he read the letter he's been standing by the lake, staring at the surface. It's a place that calms him down and he really needs that right now.
He still had time to run away from here. Leave everything behind and not care about finishing his education. There were jobs he could take that didn't require full education. Somewhere.
It's just that he didn't want to run away again.]
Elsewhere
[For the rest of the day, Shiraishi's going from class to class almost in a mechanic manner, shutting himself off from emotions (with the help of Occlumens). He's not as talkative as he usually is, but he tries not to act too differently than he normally does.
It's the moments he thinks he's alone that he sighs heavily.]
