EVENT: Valentine's Dance! February 13th

Dinner in the great hall was not only early, but fairly short. Everyone had to be out of the hall by six so that preparations for the party could be made, and when everyone was allowed back in at the start of the party it had transformed entirely.

The large tables normally used for meals now lined two sides of the great hall, holding a great variety of finger foods, drinks, and desserts that would continuously refill throughout the night. The ceiling above still reflected the night sky, but along its edges and throughout the walls were balloons, ribbons, and flowers of vast variety, with the most numerous of the flowers being white, pink, and red roses. All of of the flowers seemed to be emitting just enough light to effectively illuminate the Great Hall, giving it a - for lack of better term - rosey feel. At one corner near where the staff table normally stood was a group of string instruments, charmed into playing a selection of classical dance music as soon as the first students not involved with set-up stepped into the hall.

That was when Tamaki Suoh, a sixth year student and primary organizer of the dance, appeared at the front of the hall, smiling wide and dressed in an ivory-white tuxedo. He waved his wand briefly before he spoke, his voice magically projected with a charm so that he could be heard above any din that might happen with everyone's arrival.

"Welcome, everyone! I'm pleased to present you with our Hogwarts Valentine's Dance, and I hope you enjoy your time here tonight! Feel free to eat, drink, dance, and be merry in a break from studies and winter cold! Also keep in mind the Dance King and Queen contest, which can be anonymously voted for by you, the students, for the final spotlight dance at midnight tonight, as well as a prize of house points to the winners! Now, let the party begin!"

Prompt 1: Desserts, Drinks, and Wallflowers
Perhaps you're taking a break, enjoying the spread, and watching the other students dancing at various paces in different styles on the floor. Maybe you don't intend to go out onto the floor at all, because the chairs at the sides of the hall are just too comfortable or because you don't want to look like that idiot on the left. You know the one. Either way, congregating at the hors d'oeuvres can be a perfectly acceptable way to pass the night.

Prompt 2: Shut up and Dance
It is a dance party, after all! Grab a partner, whether it's ballroom dancing or just doing your own thing! Granted, the latter might get you some funny looks, but who cares as long as you're having fun? The smell of flowers is quite invigorating, the stars of the enchanted ceiling are above, and there's nothing more important than you and whoever your partner is, whether you know them intimately or have only met them for the first time tonight.

Prompt 3: A Breath of Fresh Air
Maybe the party is a little overwhelming, and you need to step away further from the hall than just sitting near the walls. Although no one is really supposed to leave the dance area for an extended period, who will know if you decide to use the loo as an excuse to get away for a few minutes? Maybe you just want to be somewhere more private, either by yourself or with someone else. Be careful not to get caught though, or it might be detention for you!

Prompt 4: "Love" is in the air?
Uh oh! We have no idea who, but someone seems to have spiked one of the punch bowls with a love potion! This potion is scentless and tasteless, and because the punch bowl is huge (and ever refilling) the effects are, thankfully, greatly weakened in comparison to a normal love potion. This little bit of mischief might result in some of the student body (or even some of the faculty) being a little more openly affectionate than usual with the first person they meet for the night, so a little bit of caution might be necessary. At least it's not at full potency!

Prompt 5: A moment in time that lasts forever!
A professional photographer has been hired to take pictures of students throughout the night! Although it might not be the last memory of the school year, it could be a night you want to cherish forever even if it’s just in a photograph! Is a photo an embarrassing moment or a precious time captured on a special slip of paper?

Prompt 6: Write your own Love Story!
Come up with your own prompts and have a ball AT the ball!

OoC: A note, there will be separate threads for Dance King/Queen contest sign-ups, as well as a contest for best-dressed and an attendance register that will be used to award a door prize drawn by lottery! The prizes are as follows; 50 House Points to 1st place, 25 to 2nd place, and 10 to 3rd place in their respective contests, and a 20 galleon gift receipt for Honeydukes (courtesy of Tamaki pulling some strings with the owner) as a door prize!

There will be a thread below for students to vote on Dance King/Queen, and the best dressed will be decided by members of staff specifically. RNG will be used to determine the door prize. Alright, have fun guys!

A NOTE ABOUT DANCE KING/QUEEN: Although the titles are gendered, who can be entered into each category is not! A boy can be the queen, a girl can be the king, and any combination can happen. The only limitation is that there will be two winners selected from the entrants in the contest!

Prompt 1

[ How many decades had it been since he attended a social event such as this? Jiro watched the events of the party unfolding before him, a little bored but otherwise content. School life was nothing new, and that he had been asked to attend as a member of staff to be present wasn't an entirely unpleasant duty. In spite of what he thought the party might have been, it did feel as if it had some class to it.

He looked around then, spotting people he knew and people he didn't alike while offering a curt nod to them. It just wasn't in him to go and socialize straight away, but he had no objections to simply watching the students having fun, especially one student in particular. His little brother.

Of course, because he wasn't busy running around the party and socializing, it meant he was free for conversation. He really should try to get to know the other members of staff better, too... ]

[Akatsuki hadn't really made a contact with other staff members since arriving as he had had his hands full with looking after Aidou (even if he hadn't really done anything, which was a relief). Tonight he had decided to let them both have a break from each other and socialize out of their circle. Well, at least for now.

He's dressed rather casually, even if he also is wearing formal wear. He just dislikes things like ties very much. And apparently the first button on his shirt too.

Once he notices Jirou, he makes his way to him casually, nodding in as a greeting.]

[ Why did she let Rin (Matsuoka) talk her into coming here?

In one of the many chairs lining the edges of the hall sat Adela, clothed in her beautiful green and white dress and... Gripping it to try and keep the slit along her right leg closed. She was blushing deeply, but what some might notice was how her hair was in an elegant updo, part of it clipped into a bun with the rest flowing down and floating above her shoulders. Maybe it would be her make-up, bringing out her eyes as her prominent feature while minimizing the effect of her freckles.

It was nice that she had managed to get help with this stuff but... It still felt weird. And she still hated how exposed her back, shoulders, and legs felt.

There were several boys she'd never seen before asking her to dance too, people who'd never shown any interest in her before. Each time they were shot down (mostly with the excuse that she couldn't dance, which was true), and Adela just watched, uncertain if she could handle the attention any more. Just how were these parties supposed to be fun again? ]

Prompt 3

[ The halls seemed so much quieter than usual tonight, but it was a relief to get away from the party regardless. Adela sighed as she looked absently out the windows of the castle, her pace purposely slow so that she could have a moment to breathe. It felt like mostly everyone was still at the party, so a moment alone in somewhere quiet was a great way to take a break. She knew there were a few people who wouldn't let her get away with being away from the party for too long, but she could at least admire the snow-covered grounds outside.

The question was, would she be left alone to do so? ]

[Hikaru's already bored out of his mind. He only agreed to come here because he thought he'd have fun, but so far he hadn't done anything worth mentioning.

Well, maybe it was too early to start giving up now. Hikaru noticed an interesting wallflower further away, so he decided to approach her. He casually walked over and leaned on the near by wall.]

I didn't think you'd be able to look this girlish. I'm impressed.

[Because Adela did look a lot different than the last few times they had met. In a good way, even if he's not going to openly say that.]

TAMAKI SUOH

Prompt 2 (Girls only)

[ Tamaki, after his announcement, could be seen working the party. Although he did talk to the guys who had managed to come (including some close friends of his), for the most part his attention was on the beautiful girls that evening. One would be correct in calling him shameless, for he flirted and danced with every single girl he could find who didn't already have a partner, all the while whispering sweet nothings of how beautiful and enchanting he found each and every one of them.

He was approaching another girl once more, whether they be student or member of staff it didn't matter to him. He bowed at the waist, offering his hand and a warm smile to the woman before him. ]

Though your radiance is blinding, I would gladly risk seeing nothing else for eternity if you would do me the honour of having this dance with me tonight, my lady.

[ Unfortunately, Tamaki seemed to have fallen for the little prank with the punch bowl, whether everyone was aware of it by then or not. Regardless, he approached the first person he saw and smiled, holding out his hand for them to take. ]

[Taichi was dressed up in a hakama. He had his roots in Japan, but he had lived in England for most of his life. Hakama still felt more comfortable, since their family did make frequent visits to Japan on new years and such - so of course he would wear one at the dance.

... and of course he would be approached by Tamaki. This just... was not the way he imagined how he'd be approached.]

[As always Terra is here to supervise the dance. She is happy to see that it's going well however her position as a teacher keeps her along the wall with her eyes on the students. She's wearing a beautiful floor length red dress with her mint green hair styled in a lose bun on her head. Soft curls have broken free of her hair tie and have fallen down to frame the gentle curve of her cheeks.

She isn't opposed to dancing or getting something to eat however her eyes remain on the students through out the night.]

[Hikaru loves parties and dancing and being able to hang out with her friends. Tonight she wore a blue dress which made the flaming red hue of her hair stand out even more. Bright crimson eyes glittered as she looks at the skillfully decorated walls.

She doesn't care what you are doing, if you are male or female, or if there is something in your hand. She'll move up with a warm smile, her dress lifted off the ground by her hand.]

[After awhile and a few breathless dances she finds herself wandering away from the party. There is a warm smile fixed on her lips as she seeks a little bit of the cold night air.

It's nights like this that she really wishes she could take her broom out to fly. It's a little chill but it feels nice. She inhales a breath of cold air and feels the freshness of the air. It really is a perfect night.]

[Whether it's by the food tables or on the dance floor Kotaro's smile is wide and excited. The young boy is wearing a nice vest with his usually messy blond hair combed back. His bright watery gaze reflects the pure unhindered joy of youth.

He doesn't understand what romantic love is but it's safe to say that he loves all of his friends and teachers.

If you are close by you might have a bright eyed boy staring up at you as if that might get your attention. Parties are the most fun when you're enjoying it with friends.]

[ The past few weeks had been incredibly stressful, between the reveal of his identity to Sano and having to deal with Kotaro blatantly disregarding his promise to be careful while flying. As such, even if it was becoming later and later in the night Jiro couldn't shake the feeling that he was tired, at least mentally.

Still, some of that exhaustion faded when he saw Kotaro's smile, and he waved from the side-lines while watching his little brother. At least he was having fun, even if he wasn't always wise about how he did so. ]

Naminé

[Naminé is wearing a beautiful blue dress that ripples in waves, much like the ocean, from her waist to the floor. For once she doesn't have her sketch book with her however her eyes are occasionally flicking over to the photo area curiously, as if wanting a way to preserve this moment. Her blond hair is tied back and curled looking fancier than usual. She had come to the Valentine's day party alone but she doesn't seem so bothered by that fact.

She's happy to watch against the wall, her bright blue gaze looking out over the dancers. She likes dancing and she's been taking more lessons but she needs a partner first. A soft sigh leaves her mouth before bringing a drink to her lips. Tamaki really out did himself.]

[Naminé isn't expecting the sudden rush of warmth to her cheeks or the strange thundering in her chest. Her eyes move from whoever is in front of her to the ground, the glass of punch still held tightly between her fingers. She can't seem to bring herself to say anything...]

[Seth dresses in a very simple black and white themed outfit which makes his golden gaze stand out against the mess of silvery white hair. He had brushed it but the messy strands went back to their usual placement seconds after he tried to fix it.

Throughout the dance he'll be found against the wall or at his boyfriends side, watching the proceedings with a curious interest.]

Closed to Rin

[This night is going to be perfect, or at least Seth hopes so. He has a plan, a gift and a twisting feeling that's nervously writhing in his stomach. First he needs to lure his handsome target outside of the party without being seen by anyone who might stop them.

Seth wants to make sure that Rin enjoys himself before pulling him away from the gathering so he waits until it's later in the night before walking up behind Rin and lightly taking the boys hand. His fingers lace in-between his before lightly tugging Rin back against him.]

[ For tonight, Shizuma is wearing a sharp black and blue suit, complete with a pair of white gloves and glasses. His hair is styled in a different fashion compared to his usual high ponytail. To complete his look is a pink diamond necklace, mostly hidden by his necktie and lapel.

For now, he's content to just sit back and watch the other students have fun with a smile on his face. Tonight is going to be a good night for sure. ]

[ A few girls have asked him to dance, and because Shizuma is nice, he's obliging their requests since it'd be cruel to do otherwise. He's rather skilled at dancing, almost as if it's an art to him. The dances aren't more than a few minutes each, but each of his partners are treated equally and leave with smiles on their faces.

[ Of course, being away from the dance for a bit is always a good thing to gather one's self again. Shizuma's chosen to go into the hallway for a bit, gazing a bit at the falling snow, enjoying this moment of solitude to himself. Others are more than welcome to come and join him, though, if they want to escape the noisy atmosphere of the dance. ]

[ Sometime during the dance, Shizuma is asked by Reiji to meet him in private and he was only more than happy to oblige. When the two of them have a free moment, he follows the heir out, smiling fondly at him. ]

[ Reiji is at the side of the hall for once, a glass of something in his hand and not a single thing out of place in his suit. He sets his glass on a side table before exiting, stretching a little once they're out in the cool night air. ]

[Nagisa had taken a drink and was currently sitting on the sidelines. He had only just returned after spending a year at another school after his grades the year before were not great.

But he was glad that he could convince them to let him come back and actually finish school here. Even if it was to a promise of he would do better and still be able to have a social life. Speaking of social life, he was sure he should try going around and speaking to people at least.

So taking his glass and adjusting his hat he walked on over to other wallflowers.]

Louise was a bit blindsided by the dance since she hadn't been there long before finding out. That said, she felt that make it would be good for her to go. It would maybe help her just... relax a little. Using the little amount of money she had, she found a dress in Hogsmeade and basic blue heels. She managed to pull her hair up in an updo. She decided to simply watch people dance rather that join the dance floor herself. She was fine with just sticking by the punch bowl for now.]

[Louise decided to escape the ballroom for now to go to the balcony. Leaning against the railing, she let out a sigh as she gazed at the night scenery. She thought a dance would be fun, but she wasn't as easy going as she initially thought she would be.

[His mother had at least wanted him to go, showing his face around for a bit so that when he did sneak off no one would suspect him in what he had to do. So as he adjusted the tie of his suit he started to walk around, seeing the other students that were around as he smiled.]

[When he saw the time, he knew he had to get going soon. He edging his way toward the back, he was slowly making his way to the door and went through the moment he couldn't see anyone.

Some people might be able to catch him just as he leaves, or maybe later when they come across what appears to be a white rabbit hoping alone the edge of a wall.]

[Aidou wondered around, making sure to keep up his job of keeping an eye on things as a teacher, while at the same time using his charms of some girls who come to speak to him, giving them a small wink before moving on. He was simply enjoying his time around when he could.]

[He took a small sip from the glass he had in his hand. It tasted okay, but he was pretty sure wine was much better than punch. But he worked with what he had for the moment. Though as soon as he had finished and placed the glass down, he walked up to the first person he could see and lightly placed his hands in their shoulders.]

[ Well this was odd.

Jiro raised an eyebrow at Aidou, pausing for only a moment before making to pull Aidou's hands off of his shoulders, trying to be casual in his actions and words then. ]

[Ryou had been trying his best to keep his distance from people once again, mostly from girls whom still seem to want to gather around him even if it made him uncomfortable. For the event Ryou had tied his hair up into a pony tail and wore an outfit for the occasion.

However he was still keeping to himself for the most part, unsure of if he should go and speak to people or not.]

[Kaoru knew that part of a party would be to dance and he figured he might as well help some people by asking them for a dance. So walking on over to a girl, he gave a small smile.]

[When not joining in on the party, he found that he would get bored quickly. Which was pretty normal when it came to him and parties. So he looked at the time briefly, he was trying to think of what to do next and could be found out and about, doing something.]

[ Oh hey it's the other twin. This one was Kaoru, or at least she thought he was, though without asking there was no way to tell for sure. Still, she felt nervous suddenly; Hikaru(?) had already given her a back-handed compliment, so she wasn't sure of how Kaoru was going to react.

And then there was his question. It was one thing to turn down a bunch of guys she didn't even talk to, but Kaoru(?) was... Well, someone she knew. Maybe a friend? So it was different... ]

Yami Yugi

[Yami figured he might as well at least try and see what parties were about and so with his suit, complete with a cape, he found himself standing by the sidelines, back against the wall and simply watching people as they walk past. Arms crossed over his chest, he was keeping to himself for the most part.

After a while he soon moved away and made his way across the floor, heading toward the door, he figured he might as well head off and maybe explore a bit while he could.]

Pinkie Pie

[Pinkie Pie was running around, going up to anyone she could find, a big grin on her face and a box that appeared to have a huge amount of cupcakes in, all of which seemed to be sticking to the valentines theme of red frosting and a heart placed on top.]

[... Wait, what. Rin stares for a moment too long before he finally gets the message to go ahead and pick a cupcake.]

... Thanks. [That was possibly the most unsure "thanks" he had ever muttered. He turns the cupcake over on its side, admiring the cute design.]

Matsuoka Rin

[Most of the evening Rin can clearly be seen on the dancefloor, dancing the night away in the arms of his boyfriend, smiling like the happiest person alive. His eyes are for Seth and for Seth only.

... Okay, no. Since his sister is present at the dance, he keeps an eye on her as well especially see if there aren't any perverts around, out for Gou's virtue, but mostly he's counting on Sousuke to keep them in check. Hopefully without any injuries.

When he's taking a break from dancing, he's by the tables, taking a quick meal, to have more energy for the night to come. He can be seen talking to either Seth, or one of his friends, or maybe there's a moment when he finds himself alone, which is your chance to ask him for a dance.]

[ And there's the culprit behind her presence at the dance himself. Adela's not sure if she's exasperated at Rin or not, but seeing him smiling and genuinely enjoying himself in Seth's company... Adela can't help but smile as well, waving to him when she catches his eye.

Maybe she hasn't danced yet, and maybe she's not going to end up dancing at all. It really depends on who's persistent enough to get her out onto the floor. But getting to see her friend practically glowing with bliss is enough for her, at least Adela thinks so.

So it's when Rin finally takes a break from dancing to sit for a little bit that she approaches, taking a seat nearby (though not right next to him just in case) and handing him a newly-filled glass of punch. ]

You look like you're having a lot of fun, Rin.

Harada Sanosuke

[When Sano had heard one of the students had taken it upon himself to throw a valentine's day party, he didn't hesitate to volunteer chaperoning it. He loves dance parties just as he loves to dance. Most of the evening is spent on the dancefloor, with colleagues and students of either genders, but this time, he keeps to the sidelines, leaving the spotlight to the youngsters. Whenever he spots a proverbial wallflower, he doesn't hesitate to go up to her and take her for a spin. Events are there to enjoy yourself, not to blend in with the shadows.

When he's not dancing, he's watching from close proximity, just in case something should happen. That's what he's supposed to do anyway, right? While he's at it, he chats up a passing friend, social butterfly that he is. Only people who know him will notice a subtle change, where his interactions were flirty before, they are kept on a more friendly level this time, albeit still charming as ever.]

[ Even if he's there to get to know other members of staff, seeing his friend like this is something Jiro knows he can make time for. Jiro himself is content to just stick to the outside rather than the dance floor however, calm and relaxed as the night, so far, seems to be continuing without any problems.

However, there is something different about the other man... And, although Jiro can't place his finger on it, he can't help but think that for some reason Sano looks a bit happier. Perhaps something had happened for him? ]

[because he'll never miss an opportunity to hang out with friends, and because there's no party he wouldn't attend, Yogi finds himself iin the great hall, all dressed up in bright colors of gold, purple and white, gazing at the marvelous beauty the great hall turned into.]

[Though he likes dancing for the fun of it, he's not a passionate dancer, so he keeps to the sidelines, meeting people and socializing with friends - whether they want it or not, gifting them various presents he made for them and talking like a waterfall.]

[Daphne wondered around, making sure that people didn't get up to anything that they shouldn't be doing at the party, after all they had rules and she as planning on sticking to them. Her heels stepped along the edge of the dance floor, smiling slightly as she watched people dance and enjoy there time.

It was nice for the kids to get a break every now and again, especially those who have exams coming up. As she soon stopped at a spot, she crossed her arms over her chest as she simply watched.]
