EVENT: Valentine's Dance! February 13th

Dinner in the great hall was not only early, but fairly short. Everyone had to be out of the hall by six so that preparations for the party could be made, and when everyone was allowed back in at the start of the party it had transformed entirely.

The large tables normally used for meals now lined two sides of the great hall, holding a great variety of finger foods, drinks, and desserts that would continuously refill throughout the night. The ceiling above still reflected the night sky, but along its edges and throughout the walls were balloons, ribbons, and flowers of vast variety, with the most numerous of the flowers being white, pink, and red roses. All of of the flowers seemed to be emitting just enough light to effectively illuminate the Great Hall, giving it a - for lack of better term - rosey feel. At one corner near where the staff table normally stood was a group of string instruments, charmed into playing a selection of classical dance music as soon as the first students not involved with set-up stepped into the hall.

That was when Tamaki Suoh, a sixth year student and primary organizer of the dance, appeared at the front of the hall, smiling wide and dressed in an ivory-white tuxedo. He waved his wand briefly before he spoke, his voice magically projected with a charm so that he could be heard above any din that might happen with everyone's arrival.

"Welcome, everyone! I'm pleased to present you with our Hogwarts Valentine's Dance, and I hope you enjoy your time here tonight! Feel free to eat, drink, dance, and be merry in a break from studies and winter cold! Also keep in mind the Dance King and Queen contest, which can be anonymously voted for by you, the students, for the final spotlight dance at midnight tonight, as well as a prize of house points to the winners! Now, let the party begin!"

Prompt 1: Desserts, Drinks, and Wallflowers
Perhaps you're taking a break, enjoying the spread, and watching the other students dancing at various paces in different styles on the floor. Maybe you don't intend to go out onto the floor at all, because the chairs at the sides of the hall are just too comfortable or because you don't want to look like that idiot on the left. You know the one. Either way, congregating at the hors d'oeuvres can be a perfectly acceptable way to pass the night.

Prompt 2: Shut up and Dance
It is a dance party, after all! Grab a partner, whether it's ballroom dancing or just doing your own thing! Granted, the latter might get you some funny looks, but who cares as long as you're having fun? The smell of flowers is quite invigorating, the stars of the enchanted ceiling are above, and there's nothing more important than you and whoever your partner is, whether you know them intimately or have only met them for the first time tonight.

Prompt 3: A Breath of Fresh Air
Maybe the party is a little overwhelming, and you need to step away further from the hall than just sitting near the walls. Although no one is really supposed to leave the dance area for an extended period, who will know if you decide to use the loo as an excuse to get away for a few minutes? Maybe you just want to be somewhere more private, either by yourself or with someone else. Be careful not to get caught though, or it might be detention for you!

Prompt 4: "Love" is in the air?
Uh oh! We have no idea who, but someone seems to have spiked one of the punch bowls with a love potion! This potion is scentless and tasteless, and because the punch bowl is huge (and ever refilling) the effects are, thankfully, greatly weakened in comparison to a normal love potion. This little bit of mischief might result in some of the student body (or even some of the faculty) being a little more openly affectionate than usual with the first person they meet for the night, so a little bit of caution might be necessary. At least it's not at full potency!

Prompt 5: A moment in time that lasts forever!
A professional photographer has been hired to take pictures of students throughout the night! Although it might not be the last memory of the school year, it could be a night you want to cherish forever even if it’s just in a photograph! Is a photo an embarrassing moment or a precious time captured on a special slip of paper?

Prompt 6: Write your own Love Story!
Come up with your own prompts and have a ball AT the ball!

OoC: A note, there will be separate threads for Dance King/Queen contest sign-ups, as well as a contest for best-dressed and an attendance register that will be used to award a door prize drawn by lottery! The prizes are as follows; 50 House Points to 1st place, 25 to 2nd place, and 10 to 3rd place in their respective contests, and a 20 galleon gift receipt for Honeydukes (courtesy of Tamaki pulling some strings with the owner) as a door prize!

There will be a thread below for students to vote on Dance King/Queen, and the best dressed will be decided by members of staff specifically. RNG will be used to determine the door prize. Alright, have fun guys!

A NOTE ABOUT DANCE KING/QUEEN: Although the titles are gendered, who can be entered into each category is not! A boy can be the queen, a girl can be the king, and any combination can happen. The only limitation is that there will be two winners selected from the entrants in the contest!

[Baldur knew he was a jerk and didn't care much for most things, but there was always one thing that he never seemed to be rude at. It just so happened to be at parties and social events. He sighed slightly as instead of going inside though, he planned to just have fun outside.

So with some five juggling balls he brought the day before he managed to set them alight before juggling. Sure it could burn his hands, but it kept him amused and it was fun to watch the flames dance as they went into the air.]

[ She really did need a break from the party.

Because it was cold out she remained within the castle walls for the time, but the dancing light outside the windows caught her eye and caused her to stop. Before long she was at the window sill, seated and watching. That was that one guy, wasn't it, the one who thought things had to be dangerous to be fun...

... Really, she should have been stopping him, because that was incredibly dangerous, but... At the same time, she couldn't help being captivated by the flames, and the performance for that matter. ]

[Baldur always felt connected to flames and it helped that fire had always been an ability of his. However with being here, he had felt lost and confused as he couldn't use it so willingly. But with the fire making spell they could use with the wands had helped a bit, but it was never enough.

Even as the flames touched his hand as he juggled, he didn't feel that same connection. It made him a little sad to say the least, if not annoyed at the same time. But as soon as the last ball landed in his hands, he let the fire continue to burn, his eyes looking on.

He couldn't even feel it in the same way.]

Renge Houshakuji

[Renge was watching people and she was watching for good reason. As for what that reason was it was hard to say since she was keeping pretty quiet about it. However every so often she looked down at her pad and started to write. If anyone if curious enough to walk up to her might be able to find out.]

[Kairi was enjoying herself, sure she didn't have a date or anything for the holiday itself, but she didn't honestly care at all. She found it as a day that she can get something nice for her friends. So she can be found running up to people holding something in her hands and a small bag on her arm.]

[Adjusting her dress for a moment to make sure that it was up right before going to sort out the flower that were in her hair she ws still sitting at the side, wondering if she should go and ask someone for a dance. After all she wanted to see if her practice by herself had paid off or not. After giving a small nod, she moved to stand up before going to walk over.]

Excuse me? Can I ask you a question?

[The punch was actually quite nice and Michiko had managed to to have at least two or three glasses. So as she took a sip of what she assumed was the fourth glass she started to look around, wondering what she should do next.

[Michiko had been busy making something with flowers. Something that she had been use to making since she was younger, so as she walked around little flower crowns could be seen in her bag.]

[Fai didn't really go to parties all that often, even more so after everything that has happened. So instead he had decided to not go, knowing full well that there were others who would keep an eye out.

So Fai himself can be seen wondering around the halls with a small smile on his face, either going to the Green house to collect something, or somewhere else in order to do whatever it was he needed to do.]

Rin Okumura

[It was one thing to dream about being invited to a big party and another to actually experience it. There was so much to see and so much to do and so much to eat, that it almost made Rin a little dizzy just knowing that he was a little part of it all. But not knowing many people sort of put a damper on these kind of events. Maybe he could be really discreet and retreat to his dorm? That Suoh guy wouldn't be back and he's pretty sure the others were here as well.

As the amount of unfamiliar faces grows, Rin becomes a more and more withdrawn. Maybe he'll dip real quick and be back with a fresh new attitude, ready to dance with a stranger in the pale moonlight or some shit. He makes a quick attempt at a graceful exit, he really does. In his honest opinion, it's the most graceful thing he's ever done, bar none.

But he's accidentally bumped right into another person and sent them both falling over.]

[ A startled noise left her as she fell to the ground, breathing out a little hard before checking her ankles. No twists that time... Thank goodness. She'd had enough of that rubbish for one night.

After that was done she looked up at the person who knocked her over, frowning a little as she didn't immediately recognize him. ]

[Rin doesn't immediately recognize this girl either, sadly. He holds out his hand for her, all the while trying to think of just where had he seen her before.]

[Namine is having a wonderful time at the dance. She hasn't spent a lot of time on the dance floor but she loves watching others and experiencing the thrill of excitement that seems to jump like electricity around the hall. She feels someone bump into her and she turns trying not to fall.]

R-Rin?!

[She holds out a hand hoping that she can catch the table, or she's falling on Rin.]

[They collide into one another, but (thankfully) Rin holds them up long enough to keep them from crashing into the ground - for a full ten seconds.]

[No one had been able to convince Sousuke to the dance floor so far. He'd ended up staying near a wall, standing there and trying to look like he's one of the overlooking staff members instead. It had been working, somehow.]

[Sousuke did the mistake of drinking from the wrong punch. It's why he looked awfully cheerful tonight, even if he normally looked either very indifferent or annoyed. It's an odd feeling. He just feels like smiling.]

[Ittoki had been walking around the dance hall all evening, dressed up in a more casual, yet refined looking clothes. It's rare to see him dress up that well when it wasn't his school uniform or quidditch gear, since he usually preferred comfortable clothes.

It was Ittoki's mission to talk with all his friends tonight and ask the girls to dance with him. Though sometimes even he needed a break and he found his way to the food to get some more energy, before continuing his search again.]

[ Henry had decided not to come to the ball at first, but the fact that he was late for dinner meant that he wouldn't have any food without attending. So he's sneaked in, still in his school robes, and slightly hunched over as to not draw attention to himself.

Ittoki will see the youth gesture to him from near the door. ]

Hey. Um... Otoya, can you help me get some food? I got held up in the infirmary again, so...

[ He doesn't look injured, but both of them knew what the true purpose of the delay was for. The full moon is coming up, after all. ]

[Once Ittoki noticed Henry, he approaches. Yeah, it was already that time of the month soon, wasn't it? He nods though.]

[The atmosphere in the dance hall becomes too much for Taichi pretty fast, so he finds himself a quiet corner and sits down on his knees in a Japanese fashion, as it's the most comfortable way for him to sit down with a hakama. He thanks the fact that there aren't many people around that area so he can hear his own thoughts for a while and just concentrate on calmin himself down.]

[Eren feels like he's in a completely wrong place. Mikasa had convinced him to come after even buying him clothes that fit the event, but... he felt like he really didn't belong there.

Everyone seemed to have so much fun. Eren wasn't really feeling it. It had been over a month since he arrived to this place, but he still worried over what was going on at home and... he was lonely. He had met Korra and Mikasa was nice to him, but... he missed home. The real Mikasa and Armin. Everyone else, too.

He sighs and drinks more of the punch in his hands.

Maybe he could escape soon.]

[ Tamaki had once again used a charm to project his voice, commanding the attention of everyone in the hall as he levitated the ballot boxes to his side. ]

First, the drawing for the door prize... [ Once again he used a charm, taking a single slip from what had to be the fullest of the four boxes… ] Is Yuugi of the Gryffindor House! Congratulations! If you don't want to collect right now, I'll get you your 20 galleon certificate to Honeydukes as soon as possible after the dance!

[ In a bit of showmanship he winked to the audience, grinning before holding up three envelopes, separating one and tearing it open on the spot. ]

A special thank you to our volunteers, who counted the ballots in time for the winners to be announced here at the height of the dance! Our winner up is best dress! And... It seems that our members of staff have chosen to recognize Kotaro Mochizuki of Hufflepuff as the best dressed man here tonight, taking a prize of 50 House Points! Very nice work, Kotaro!

[ The second envelope is in hand, with Tamaki's eyes brightening. ]

[ Someone could hear the internal drumroll. However, he stopped entirely for a moment, eyes widened with surprise before he wore the biggest and brightest smile he could. He'd seen all three results at once and couldn't have been more pleased. Of course his schoolmates would have good taste! ]

[ Another rip and the last envelope is open, showing Tamaki the results and getting ready to announce them. ]

She doesn't know, and in her discomfort she hugs her arm to her body as she looks around. Why in the hell did she win in the first place though? She's not that pretty, and go knows she's not that nice... ]

[Naminé feels her cheeks flush as her watery blue eyes look around the room. She must have heard that incorrectly. When she notices the sea of people looking towards her she attempts and fails to hide behind her sister.

She looks back up at the stage where Tamaki had been speaking. As always he's composed and a picture of perfection which suddenly makes Naminé feel more nervous. With a push she steps towards Tamaki, her cheeks remaining a bright rosy red.]

A-are you sure it isn't a mistake?

[She has her skirt gathered in her hands as she looks over at the blond prince.]
