Care of the Magical Creatures

Good day, class. I am proud of you all making it here despite cold weather. [Uro himself didn't mind the cold, but he knew a lot of people who didn't enjoy being out when it was freezing. There weren't even that many Magical Creatures who liked to be in the snow either.]

Today, we have a practical lesson. Everyone, please follow me. Be aware that some of these creatures might be a little on the edge due to cold... so please be careful around them.

[3rd years will meet Salamanders, 4th years have Unicorns (an adult and its foal), 5th years have Bowtruckles, and the 6th and 7th years get to all try flying a Hippogriff (as they did on their 3rd year, this is a small test to see if you still remember how to handle them).]

Around the Halls

[Between classes and after school was over, Uro mostly kept to himself. He wasn't such a fan of socializing with his colleagues and usually never spent time in the teacher's lounge if it wasn't necessary. He preferred to spent time observing the students and learning what kind of people they had here - maybe even if they would be useful for some mischief, one day.]

4th Year Class!

[ Practical? So dealing with the actual creatures for the first time in a while. If it's not the lesson itself, the cold will manage to keep Adela awake enough to be engaged, even if she's shivering a little beneath her robes and clothing. At least this time she has her gloves and a house scarf, and it feels like it makes a world of difference.

Still, she can't help being intrigued by the lesson, struggling to keep up while her legs sank into the snow. She doesn't fall too far behind but she does stop when she catches the white gleam, her breath catching in her throat. She'd seen pictures when she'd started taking the course the previous year, but... ]

Is that...?

[ She can't finish, too stunned by how beautiful it -- they look. There are two! It almost takes her right back to being a little kid, when she pretended they were real but... They are real and she didn't think she'd get to see one but there they are! They're dazzling, almost blinding, and yet she can't look away. ]

We're... [ Hard swallow to try and get her composure back. ] We're working with Unicorns...?

[varuga]

That's right. We're not doing anything particular. I have asked the mother and her child to visit here to give you a rare chance to interact with them.

[Of course, it wasn't possible for someone like Uro to capture an Unicorn and well, he didn't want to get cursed anyway so he's treating them with mutual respect.]

The adult one prefers to interact with females, while the foal will also accept males.

[ It's impossible to hold back the smile on the red head's expression as, with the other students, she approaches the two. She's listening for Uro of course, for any warning or instruction or anything at all but... Well, it's kind of impossible not to be the least bit distracted.

Adela herself is hesitant, standing a few feet away from the mare and waiting for any sign that it's okay to approach. It's nerve-wracking, really more than almost anything else she's ever done. It almost doesn't even feel like a class, with what's going on...

Finally she just turns to look at Uro again, still clearly nervous. ]

Uh... Anything else we should know?

Make sure they're aware of your presence before actually trying to touch them. They should let you know when it's alright.

3rd Year

[strength_of_heart]

[Hikaru loves care of magical creatures because it's the one class she doesn't have to think about. She's able to form bonds with animals without much effort and she's yet to find an animal that she dislikes.]

Their so cute!

[She walks slowly up to the Salamander making sure that she doesn't startle them.]

Where are they from?

[varuga]

These particular Salamanders have been born on the school grounds, from the fires of the previous Salamanders here. They are still rather young, and may try to burn you so be careful.

It's okay.

[She smiles down at the lizards.]

I'm good with animals.

[If he ever wants an assistant Hikaru will definitely volunteer.]

Then you're definitely in the right class, miss.

[The lizards seem rather tame, even if they're also ready to just bolt or spit some fire at the students if needed.]

Around the Halls

I didn't know teachers enjoyed people watching too.

[Seth's voice is soft as he steps up next to the teacher. He doesn't have any classes for the rest of the afternoon and he's decided to watch the other students as they go about their day.]

[Uro makes a small smile at the boy.]

It's part of our jobs to get to know our students, no? Not all of them are necessary going to participate in our classes, but it doesn't hurt to know as many as you can.

Even if they are only here for a seven years?

[This is curious.]

[varuga]

Of course. You never know if you'll meet them in the magical world after they graduate.

6th Year

[Yogi was standing with his other classmates in the snow, wearing his green parka and fluffy scarf, wearing an excited smile on his face. They were gonna do Hippogriffs today! So cool! Yogi loves all kinds of animals and while his obvious preference is in cute and fluffy, he likes the more cools ones as well. He firmly believes there's no such a thing as a dangerous animal, you just had to know how to hndle them. Though he's a little nervous at the meeting with a Hippogriff.

He raises his hand, having a question.]

Professor? What's our task?

[varuga]

[Ah, Yogi is always the more excited one in class. There is rarely a boring moment with this kid, that's for sure.]

I was just going to explain that. As you might remember, we went through the basics of dealing with Hippogriff's in the third year. This year I'm putting you through a test.

[He raises a hand to pet one of the Hippogriff's neck. It's clear the animal doesn't mind Uro at all.]

You have to earn their trust enough so they'll let you fly.

[kiramekiouji]

[Fly a... Oh dear. Isn't that dangerous? Well... they were 6th years and have gone through the basics, so they should be prepared... There are a few Hippogriffs there and groups of students are fighting over who will go first - no one wants to, so Yogi decides to take the deciding from them. If he remembers everything they learned he'll be fine.

Slowly, he approaches the nearest one and makes eye conact, then unblinkingly and deeply as possible, bows. The Hippogriff looks like he's considering him, piecing him with an astute gaze, hen finally lowers his front legs and Yogi smiles brightly. Straightening he pets the beast on the tof of it's head, not paying attention to the low cheers behind him.]

You're so beautiful...

[And really, it is. Hippogriffs are always beautiful. But no matter that, he's still a little nervous about riding one, so he doesn't get on immediately, gathering his courage.]

[Uro looks pleased that the first one went so well. He smiles pleasantly.]

Do not worry. These Hippogriff's won't let harm come to you and I'm also here to help.

[Not that he wouldn't mind a little chaos, but maybe not during class.]

Halls

[Sano is returning from his afternoon class with the first years, with just enough time to get a bit into his stomach, along with a cup of coffee and the rest of the Daily Prophet, before heading to the Quidditch Pitch for training, when he sees the Magical Care Professor standing in the hall. That man is standing completely still, gaze focused forward, but not appearing to look at anything particular. He just watches.

It's strangely unnerving.

It's not that Sano doesn't get the point of watching people and things, hhe does it a lot as well, only more subtly. And there's just something about Uro that made you cautious. Sano continues on his track, approaching the man with brisk, confident steps.]

Up to no good?

[He teases with a grin.]

[Sano isn't on the list of Uro's favorite people. Mostly because of Quiddicth, since he definitely doesn't like the sports, but also because he reminds him of all the good in people that makes him gag.

Still, he kept interacting with him just to be polite. It's not like he can afford losing trust or anything.

Uro chuckles.]

You caught me. I was just about to turn everyone in the hall into frogs.

[The scariest thing is, his voice doesn't really tell if he's joking or not.]

[Sano can never quite tell when this man was joking, but he takes the risk and makes the guess, that this time he is. It would be too conspicious, if he started turning random people into frogs in the hall of all places.]

I feel like I should point out that punishment by transfiguration is not the way of disciplining in Hogwarts.

[He's still smiling crookedly, like he's continuing the joking, but he makes sure there's a silent warning carrying through it. If Uro starts causing any harm to anyone - especially the students - Sano will know of it. And not let it slide.]

Around the Halls

[Daphne had been focused he checking the work of the other students more than focusing on talking to others. It was something she was use to after all doing what she use to do before she found herself here. However as she moved the papers so that they were firmly in her arms, she had been very close to bumping into the other.]

I am so sorry. I guess I shouldn't focus on work in such a busy area.

[varuga]

[There's a pleasant smile on Uro's face.]

Oh, no, it's alright. This might not be the best place to work, but at least there was no harm done.

Of course. Um, are you one of the new professors here?

[She hadn't seen him around before after all.]

7th Year Class

[luckyhope]

[A Hippogriff, last time Makoto handle one of those it wasn't exactly something that ended well. But he hoped this time would be different. Sure it wasn't his talent, but it didn't mean he wasn't going to try and do well in it.]

I'll be careful, but I assume you want to to handle them, right?

[varuga]

No. I want you to handle them from the start to finish. You are all in your seventh year. You should be able to do it.

[He smiles encouragingly. You're on your own, Makoto.]

[You'll probably figure out very quick that Makoto's luck was not with him most of the time. It was taking him a while to even try anything. However when he did it was so far so good. Maybe this one didn't have problems with him or something.]

I am... doing it correctly... I think.

[He is so unsure of himself right now.]
