A) MORNING: Great Hall - Slytherin Table

[It's Friday morning and Rin is eating his spicy bacon, thinking about everything he has to do today, from Christmas shopping to study the new potion that Prof. Flourite has started with them - you could never do that early enough. He had passed the last test well enough, but it has revealed to him, that he still wasn't as good as he thought he was.

And then he has to go to Hogsmead shopping for presents, because there's no way he can get it all done next time. Besides Quidditch is starting in December, he ought to prepare for that as well. Gryffindor absolutely could not win.

He's torn out of his thoughts by the arrival of the owl post and to his surprise, there's a letter dropped in front of him. One look at the sender has him choking on the bacon one moment, and tearing off the top of the envelope the other. It was rarely that his step parents wrote him - for the obvious reasons of being Muggles - but sometimes they found a way how to deliver a letter to him, usually by someone assisting them.

His eyes skim through the page, a feeling of warmth spreading through him at the familiar handwriting smiling at him. He doesn't even notice how his perpetual frown drops, allowing a rare, unguarded smile settle on his face, as he reads what Russel and Lori wanted to let him know.]

B) DAY: Library - Behind a neat pile of books

[Rin is sitting behind his usual table in the library, a pile of various books on potion ingredients in a neat pile next to him. Let it be said that the 'Draught of Peace' was finnicky to make, but the more he understood the function of the ingredients, the less mistakes he'd make. Powdered Moonstone, Unicorn horn and Porcupine quills are mostly obvious, but the Syrup of Hellebore is tricky, thus there are more than a few Herbology books around him as well.

His quill is twitching as his hand flies over the parchment, taking notes of everything he deems as useful. He's collected over two feet of notes already and they keep coming, black ink painting the parchment with a dense, small script.]

C) AFTERNOON - Outside: Hogsmead, or on his way there

[Rin practically flies, even without his broom underneath him, out of the castle as the last lesson ends, in a hurry to buy at least a few presents before the shops close. Which won't be for another few hours, but still. At least he knows exactly what to buy, which saves him some time as well. It's dark outside already and the freshly fallen snow crunches underneath his feet. It's cold, but the running keeps him warm.]

[Whatever embarrassment Rin feels seems to go right over Namine's head. She looks over at the window again thinking over his words carefully.]

That would mean that I'd draw them something but I already do that.

[She's always happy to draw again thing.]

It's what I usually do for Grandma. This year I drew a picture of Kairi and me.

[That's right. There was always a sketchbook in her hands, wasn't there?]

Che. Then draw them something special. Like a big painting or something.

[Not that he cares, or anything. He wonders what to buy his own friends, it's not his problem what she does...]

[Namine hesitates for a moment but then looks down at her sketchpad.]

Maybe if I bought them a bigger canvas and used some paints too... I could try water color but I'm not so good at it.

I almost have the enchantment down that brings paintings to life too!

[The spell that brings... Wait, no. That's already amazing in itself. No matter how you look at it, there's no soul that wouldn't get excited over a present like that.]

That's amazing!

[He exclaims.]

I bet your family would totally love it!

And who says you gotta do a watercolor. Do something you're good at instead.

[Namine smiles feeling her confidence brim.]

really? Then I'll do that then.

Thank you.

[She isn't expecting him to help her like this.]

[Rin blushes when she thanks him, realizing his badass image is crumbling once again.]

No, I mean...

[He rubs his neck embarrassedly, but then sighs and gives in. Just this once is okay.]

You're welcome. [He mumbles, looking away.

Now... What should he buy?]

[Namine still think's that Rin is rather intimidating and impressive though he hasn't asked so she won't mention it. Besides, it's embarrassing.]

Can I help you?

[He's helped her after all.]

[He sighs. Can she? He hates asking for help and he usually knows exactly what to buy, but this year he's a little lost.]

I have a friend... I don't know what to buy him.

[Seth was special, after all and on one hand RIn didn't want to overstep boundaries, on the other he didn't want to buy anything too simple.]

He means a lot to me and I want to expres it. But I have no idea what he'd like.

[And it's not like he could ask. It would ruin the surprise.]

[Namine's head tilts to the side while a finger presses against her lips.]

Well why not do something only you can do?

[Since he'd given her a similar suggestion.]

I mean, you can buy something very nice but maybe if you made something or picked out something out that suits him.

[She pauses.]

What's he like?

[Rin snorts at the suggestion. The idea is nice in itself, it's just that he can't imagine for the life of him, what it should be.]

There's no such thing.

['Something only he could do'. Creativity wouldn't even be the problem, he was just no good with his hands and arts in general. And other than that he had no striking talent suitable for designing presents. He was good at potions, arithmancy and transfiguration. That was it. And a potion was hardly a good Christmas gift.]

He's... very nice. [He answers her question, with a small smile that he doesn't notice creeping on his face. The one that he always has when thinking of Seth.] Has a warm smile and when I'm with him I feel relaxed and safe. He doesn't know it, but he's helped me a lot.

[That sounds really nice though she understands why it might be difficult. Making someone something certainly shows you care but there are perfect gifts out there that don't involve talent.]

What about something for him to remember you or vice versa? Like you could have a picture of the both of you framed or matching bracelets or a charm.

[It's a little girly but it's cute.]

Maybe...

[Something to remember him by... It sounds a little clichéd, but it's better than nothing. And they haven't been friends for too long, so it's a good start. They had enough time to get to know each other and get themselves more personal things.]

[Namine smiles and with a quick nod she looks back towards the stores.]

I should pick up supplies. Thank you and I hope I helped.

[Bright blue eyes shine up at Rin before she turns and runs off. She doesn't want to forget her plans.]
