imperturbatus | The 1st - A Quiet Summer Vacation?

OUTSIDE, IMMEDIATE CAMPUS GROUNDS

She was there early, but it didn't really matter. Her family on all sides were just too busy this year to take her back, and it made her wonder why things had to be like that.

Still, Adela sort of liked the some-what empty campus. Summer homework was easy to finish without any distractions, she could spend more time with Saggia, and she had to admit that Hogwarts was a beautiful campus in the summer. In fact, on a beautiful day with few white clouds in the sky and the sun shining bright, it was hard to resist taking her broom for a spin around campus. She didn't really have a chance before between getting it for her birthday and exams, so what better time than right then and there!

It wasn't hard to see her racing with her owl in the sun, and she grinned and laughed before the two landed on the roof, seating herself and relaxing a bit as she looked over the broom and enjoyed the company of her pet. It was kind of nice and isolated up here... There was nothing in the world quite like flying.

LIBRARY, COMMON AREA

It was probably a strange sight, to have one of the summer students actually studying during her stay at Hogwarts. Even stranger still was that she was in fact not a Ravenclaw but clearly wearing Hufflepuff colours even with summer clothing. The strangest thing at all was that it wasn't homework she was researching, but instead it was reading Hogwarts: A History with other wizarding history books piled beside the luxurious chair she had seated herself in. She'd gotten enough sunshine for one day, and with most of her summer homework completed... Even three years later, she couldn't help her desire to learn about the world she had no idea existed until she turned eleven.

Still, it was quiet even for a library. Not that she minded the silence, but part of her wished she was allowed to bring Saggia into the library, if only for the company...

HUFFLEPUFF, COMMON AREA

A long day, a quiet but bright night where sunset hadn't happened yet. It was nice to sit by the fire even if the summer evening was already quite warm, but the ice water provided in the rooms helped. Still, she wasn't tired yet, so maybe... This would help her get there. If only so that she could get away from that cat for a little while.

Why did it like her so much? Sure it was cute, but it wasn't like she was its owner. Didn't it belong to that girl Naminé?

There were a lot of transfer students coming in, she thought to herself absently. It was a little confusing, but it wasn't like it was her business. She didn't even feel like reading anymore, but what else could she do?

Kairi stretched as she came into the common room after a long hard day of flying around and practising for the school year and trying out for the Hufflepuff team. She was starting to feel confident in her own abilities and that she could be able to do it.

As she went to put her broomstick down by the entrance she glanced on over, wondering if maybe she could warm herself up a bit by the fire. Taking a few steps to noticed the other and gave a small wave. "Relaxing before another school year comes, huh?"

"... I guess."

Probably the worst part of getting sorted into Hufflepuff was how social everyone was. It made her feel more awkward and like she had to say stuff, and... She just knew she wasn't good at it. This girl was putting away a broom too... Was she flying earlier too? Maybe she should have been paying more attention, but she didn't run into the other girl earlier...

... She looked kind of like her roommate, somehow. Ah well.

She smiled clapping her hands together before she went to sit by the fire. After a tough day of practise it was always nice to sit by the fire and just relax for the time being. "It's always good to relax while we can. I heard it can be stressful during the exam years for both O.W.L.S and N.E.W.T.S, the latter being even more so for really obvious reasons."

However she didn't find she was stressing any. But that was mostly because she didn't think what she had planned on doing. Reaching her hands out she let the warmth of the fire tingle her hands. It was nice and helped warm her hands up.

"So... Do you have an idea of what you want to be in the future?"

"I haven't thought about it... I'm just going into fourth year, it's not as if I have to decide this moment," Why was this girl talking to her? Adela just felt more on edge then, trying to end the conversation as quickly as possible with short and clipped answers. Maybe she should have been trying to be nice, but she didn't think she could at the time.

"So you at least have another year left. That's always a good thing. The fifth year is when starts to have to consider it since you get the talks." As far as she was aware anyway and from what she had heard from students from a higher year. She was somewhat looking forward to it herself.

She figured the other might not be comfortable, but she tried her hardest to help the other.

"Yeah. Loads of time," She couldn't figure it out. A sigh and she just kept looking away from Kairi, unsure of what to say or do. Why were the upperclassmen so... Nosey, here? Wasn't it obvious that she wanted to be left alone? But if she actually said it they'd probably think she was rude or something... She just couldn't win.

"D-Do you want me to go away?" She asked, wondering if perhaps they might have been alone for a reason. She didn't want to be a nuisance, but at the same time she wanted to help in anyway.

"I dunno," Adela just shook her head, turning further away from Kairi and trying to shift a little away. Even she didn't understand why she felt so on-edge around the other student, only that it happened a lot.

You act like you do, yet you don't know?" She tilted her head slightly. She couldn't say that she understood the person because it was obvious she didn't at all, but she couldn't help but want to try and help or even to understand them in anyway possible. But it was just the how to go about it was the problem.

"I just... I dunno!" She shook her head, embarrassed at not being able to give the other girl a real answer. By that point she was beet red, unsure of what else to do or say when the first thing that came to mind came out, "why are you even talking to me anyway? I'm not nice or interesting at all."

"Why do I talk to you?" She paused slightly, that was an odd question to ask really. But she was more than happy to answer it anyway.

"Because it doesn't matter if you are or not, it's polite to speak to people and get to know them."

"I'm not a nice person to get to know," Again she spoke without really thinking, feeling more and more on edge as the conversation continued. She seemed more defeated than embarrassed though, slumping forward with a small sigh, "M'rude and it's kinda weird to... Well, talk to people that much. I just end up offending them right away."

"Well... I haven't been offended yet." At least she couldn't be offended easily anyway. Putting a hand behind her back leaning forwards slightly. "So far I think your good to talk to, even if you don't believe that is the case."

Adela didn't respond then - in truth, she couldn't really find any response for that. It stymied her, and she was silent while waiting for whatever Kairi was going to say or do next. In truth... Adela had been resisting making new friends for years, and she knew she had been. Maybe that was why people still coming to her baffled her so much.

"..."

It was quiet and she didn't know what to say next if she had to be honest. She wanted the other to perhaps open up maybe, but she wasn't sure they could manage to do that today at least.

So with a smile she figured she would stop here, not force her to do something she might be uncomfortable with for now. "okay, I'll go for now, if that makes you feel better, but next time I'll be back and it will be for longer."

Adela really didn't know how to respond then. All she could do was listen to Kairi, waiting for her to decide and to, well, tell her about it. Back, and for longer? Well... She didn't know. What was with everyone approaching her and trying to make friends all of a sudden...
