[Closed to Rin] Long Time Coming
[ What. The. Actual. Fuck.
Fuck that redheaded shark mouthed bastard. It was his fault they were in this mess in the first place! Always with the egging on, always with the digging himself under Jean's skin to see what new, fresh way he could annoy him. Honestly, he wished that the professor let him beat the shit out of Rin because then maybe he'd back the hell off for once.
But no.
Of course not.
They were now stuck in detention. Facing each other and unable to move from their seats. Jean's eyes narrowed so much that they were nothing more than slits, his expression grim as he leaned back in his chair and forced himself to look anywhere but the idiot across from himself.
Because seriously fuck him. Fuck him uncomfortably.
Like hell he was going to talk anything out, no matter how much badgering any professor did. No matter how much spell work they laid on him. He wasn't budging. Rin could rot in hell for all he damn well cared. ]
((ooc: we're handwaving the actual argument becauseI'm we're lazy, but we had their fight plotted out to get them on better terms. Basically Jean said a long time ago that if Slytherin won, he would eat his own dirty underwear and Rin finally tries to collect on that. Instead of brushing it off, the whole thing escalates and they're caught trying to fist fight each other and given detention. If you've got a teacher character, feel free to play the one who did it. Otherwise we'll likely just npc it haha. But come watch the train wreck!))

[Rin, as it turns out, has no trouble vocalizing his displeasure.
Or with maintaining eye contact, as he keeps staring that goddamned Gryffindor - the source of all of his troubles and then some - down, arms crossed at his chest. At least that much freedom of movement has been granted to them, and Rin intends to make use of it, as best as he can.]
You had to go and be a fucking sook yet again.
[Seriously, Jean could be such a sissy sometimes, throwing a fuss about every tiny thing. All Rin had done was to casually remind Jean of his promise, and before he knew it, he had the Gryffindor captain around his throat, trying to strangle Rin.]
You flip your shit at everything! We'd get a lot less into these situations, if you could take a fucking joke for once!
no subject
My fault?!
[ Jean's expression as he directed it toward Rin could have murdered someone. He even jostled his seat a little with how fast that murderous glare was whipped toward him, hands coming to grip into the fabric of his own pants to give them something to do that wasn't reaching out to strangle Rin again. ]
If you were actually joking maybe I'd laugh, but you're the dickhead that keeps annoying me and coming back for more!
[ There's a beat before Jean snarls ]
And what the bloody hell is a sook?
no subject
But he doesn't even flinch at the look Jean gives him, even if it's a look that could have molten the Antarctic. He's far too used to it by now, to have a proper reaction to it, though... Though it does make him feel strangely hurt. Driving Jean up a wall was fun only if the blonde gave back as good as he got, but it seemed that all Jean could give Rin was a murderous look and a contemptuous stare.
Rin sighs.]
There you go again, getting all worked up for nothing. All I said was you should stand to your words! I could have even spiced it up for you but no, you had to go and try strangling me instead! And a sook is exactly what you are: A wimpy, whiny touch-me-not, offended at every tiniest jab.
no subject
[ Yep. Full on bitchy Jean Kirstein initiate. Your fault Rin, your fault. ]
I'm not a whimpy, whiny, easily offended person! I'm not even easy to offend! You ever think it's because you say the wrong shit to me that I get nasty with you, huh?
[ Not... That Jean should, but he's now pointing at Rin and leaning forward to jab his finger against the other teen's shoulder. Hard. ]
Own up to your own mistakes!
no subject
[He says on an almost automatic response, tone dryer than ash. Usually he'd respond with more esprit, but this is just... annoying. He slaps Jean's finger away, flashing his sharp teeth as he seethes.]
You act like I want to offend you! Meanwhile, it's all in that fruit loop you have for a head! You have absolutely no conception of friendly rivalry, and all you ever do is breathe fire at me!
[His voice raises towards the end, getting now pissed off on top of everything else as well.]
no subject
We're not friends.
[ Point blank, yep. Arms crossing and everything. ]
Why would you expect friendly rivalry?
no subject
Rin quickly averts his gaze, hoping Jean doesn't catch whatever expression he's wearing and tries to remember how to do Occlumency properly. It's not that he minds people knowing how he feels about them, he just prefers not to let his rivals know. Admitting to emotions is just not something rivals are supposed to do. He supposes it's a pride thing, but he'd still rather have his tongue cut out than admit to Jean Kirstein he likes him. ... NOT THAT WAY!
But he has to admit, the comment stings more than it should. But disagreeing is, for the reasons above, not an option, so he just murmurs, still not looking at the blonde Gryffindor.]
Suppose not.
no subject
It didn't make sense to Jean. So he felt what he said was true. They weren't.
He looks away too, falling into silence.
At least for a few minutes. ]
Why did you think we were?
no subject
Rin can feel his ears and cheeks heat up, because why the hell did he have to open his goddamn mouth?]
Does it matter? We're not, I'm a dipstick for assuming so, you can let it go!
[He's angry at himself for ever thinking Jean would see him as a friend. After all, why would he? Why should he? After all, all Rin ever does is poke him, tease him, push all the buttons, goad him, insult him and yell at him. Pretty much everything he's ever done with Sousuke. But Jean isn't Sousuke. On hindsight, Rin should have realized it sooner. Jean never teased him back, the never really bickered as much as they fought, and Jean usually seemed to be on edge whenever Rin saw the guy. He had just assumed it's the way Jean is, but... apparently he'd been wrong. The Gryffindor just couldn't stand his guts after all.]
In fact we never have to talk again, if you really can't stand me that much.
no subject
[ At least he's blunt about it? Because... Y'know. He's not a complete asshole! ]
It's like you like pissing me off.
[ Because the biggest differences between Jean and Sousuke was Jean was a realistic type of guy. You fight with someone enough, you get the impression that being friends wasn't something that would happen. ]
no subject
I do. But only for fun.
[Finally looking at Jean, he shrugs his shoulder.]
But then you go all defensive and I get nasty.
[Because it confuses and upsets him when he gets real anger, where he expects retaliation. Guess now he knows why Jean got defensive so much in the first place. It really does make sense if you look at it at that angle.]
Look, we don't have to be besties for life, but if you could at least take my "insults" less seriously it would make both of our lives easier.
no subject
[ Jean looks at Rin when he says that, not ashamed to admit that he's a pretty serious guy. Yes, he has his fun but getting into spats with people does nothing but raise his blood pressure and ruin his mood for unforeseeable amounts of time. And Rin never seemed to fail to get on his bad side when he was just trying to be "friendly". ]
But I can do you one better. How about you just don't do it? That'll make our lives a lot bloody easier.
no subject
No can do. It's too much fun to drive you up a wall and you make it too easy. How about you unclench that tight butthole of yours a little, and try to take yourself less seriously?
[Giving up on teasing Jean? Never! Not if he can help it.]
no subject
He pinched the bridge of his nose and deadpanned at Rin. ]
Yeah, sure. What the hell. Why don't I just let you mock me for the rest of our school years. That'll be a blast. And while you're at it, you can go ahead and fuck yourself.
no subject
You keep telling me so but as I said, I already have someone to do that.
[He pauses, as if considering something, before he adds.]
And he does it really well.
[At Jean's expression, he just laughs. Oh yeah, this is definitely fun.]
You bet it will be a blast, if you only do the same to me. Come on. We're the captains of Slytherin and Gryffindor. It's sort of mandatory for us to breathe fire at each other. And it's more fun if the fire is friendly.
no subject
[ Those words were muttered, though. Rin would always seem to think he was offering, but he wasn't interested. If your name wasn't Mikasa, Jean didn't want anything to do with you in the dating department. Hell, he wasn't even attracted to you. One woman kind of guy, y'know? ]
And I don't want to know anything about your sex life, stop telling me!
[ There's not the usual amount of heat in his voice, really just frustrated and done with that topic, but trying to be amiable at the same time. ]
Listen--
[ Jean leans forward and drops both hands to hang off the edge of the arms of the chair he sat in. He's about to be level headed and matter of fact with you, Rin. Listen to him for once~ ]
Learn when to stop pushing my buttons and maybe we'll start getting along. Until then, I make no promises about friendly banter since we're not on friendly terms.
no subject
Well, you never know. You tell me 'fuck you' so often, a guy gets the wrong idea.
[No, he doesn't seriously think Jean wants anything like that from him. But he also doesn't really think the coach and Sousuke are really in a relationship, but that hasn't stopped him from annoying the hell out of his best friend - whom he still misses more than he's willing to admit - either.]
And trust me, I'd love to stop stomping on your plethora of triggers, except I have no idea how, since I don't understand them. If you'd bother letting me know what crawled up your ass and died, it would be so much easier.
no subject
However he's sidelined by Rin's next comment, a stupid look crossing his features. One that said "are you kidding me" more than anything. ]
Tch. Most of the time I tell you when I tell you to piss off!
[ Though... Some of the time, he'd admit that he was already just in a bad mood when Rin decided to poke at him and make it worse.
Jean reaches up to run his hand through his mop of dirty blonde hair, his eyes landing squarely on Rin. ]
Why should I have to tell you when I'm in a bad mood? Usually it's pretty obvious.
no subject
[Rin makes a frustrated sound at the back of his throat, crossing his arms at his chest.]
Let me make this as monosyllabic as possible: What I meant was that you get pissed off at shit I don't get, for reasons I don't get.
[He mentally pats himself on the back, when he notes that almost all words had been indeed monosyllabic. But that's as far as he gets with those, because he likes using big words, for the sole reason of how smart they make him sound. But, apparently, he can't overuse them on Kirstein. He needs to get a point across, after all.]
It's like your default state of mind, and every little thing seems to tick you off. Sometimes I feel like I only need to open my mouth, and you shoot through the roof even if it's just a harmless joke, and I have no idea what got you so worked up about it. Frankly, it's frustrating. What I'm trying to say, you have a giant stick up your backdoor, and I don't understand why you are incapable of chilling out at all.
no subject
You don't have to understand. Anyone with half a brain would just walk away when they see someone's in a bad mood, but you? You think you're being friendly and you're only making it worse.
[ Yeah... he's getting annoyed again. Already. Maybe it's obvious because he's getting tense and his expression is becoming more annoyed. But honestly? Who the hell did Rin think he was? Just because they were captains of quidditch teams didn't mean they had to be friends or friendly rivals, and it was obvious how much they clashed. ]
Learn to read people.

[Rin shoots back. Seriously, Jean should be thanking him. There he went each time, offering a perfect opportunity for Jean to vent himself out, and what did the blonde do? The exact opposite. Not that it's usually Rin's first intention to help Jean get rid of his frustration, but if the Gryffindor thought practically, he'd use the situation to his benefit and they both could have their gain. Rin would have his fun, Jean would have a vent, it could work so perfectly. But no. Mister-I-am-too-cool-to-not-take-myself-seriously-Kirstein had to go and be stubborn.]
Learn to chill.
no subject
[ The expression on Jean's face broke from it's seriousness into being flabbergasted. ]
Are you kidding me!?
[ He exhales loudly and reaches up to put his hand over his face. ]
Why the hell would I use it to get in a better mood when you're annoying me more?
no subject
no subject
[ Because honestly, he's thinking that no. It doesn't. That Rin just talks and ever listens to himself or how stupid he sounds or what he even says that irks Jean so much. ]
no subject
Whatever. More reason for you not to be so sensitive about it.
[He mumbles before looking at Jean again.]
Look, all I'm saying is, you shouldn't take everything I say too much to your heart. Especially not when I'm just aiming to tease you.
no subject
[ But again, Jean's giving Rin this look that says "you never take the hint, dumbass".
What he does feel is a decent shift in their dynamic, though. Maybe Jean really will treat their... whatever the hell their conversations really are, maybe he'll treat them differently. It could be fun having a frienemy instead of just someone who annoys the hell out of him.
He lets out a soft exhale of breath and leans further back in the chair, relaxing. ]
I like to think I'm reasonable enough that if I'm not already in a shitty mood and you back off when you piss me off, we could be friendly.
[ Basically when he's riled up, he needs to cool his temper before he can be reasonable. ]
no subject
[Rin replies, considering the deal an achievement. Making sure to sound like a tease is something he can work with.]
I'll work on that. If you remember that even if I fail to sound like it, 99% of the time I'm using friendly fire.
[He pauses for a moment, hesitating briefly, but in the end decides to drop the act for once and admits.]
I have no reason to want to insult you, or be pissed off at you. You're a decent guy and I have my own accomplishments to not be envious or whatever.
[But that's as far as he'll ever get to admitting he likes Jean. And if a single word of their conversation leaks out, someone is dying.]
no subject
Are you saying you were envious of me in the first place?
[ Because consider him baffled. Jean's pretty confident in his own skill as a Quidditch player and he knows he's a decent enough student, so why wouldn't someone be envious, but he didn't think that given Rin's own it would ever be something like that. Consider him preening a little bit, though. Maybe even more than a little, given the grin spreading his lips. ]
