6th Fashion Choice

[Kaoru had come back after a couple week absence. He never said why, nor did he really want to. But he was glad he was at least allowed at the time. Stretching slightly as he entered the Entrance Hall he couldn't help but glance around. It was nice to be back and it was enough to make him smile. First he went to the Great Hall to see who was about and grab something to eat after the long trip.

After he had finished he had gotten up and started to wonder around, going to various places with a smile on his face before finally going to the Slytherin Common Room. He at least hoped along the way he'd be able to see people he might not have seen over the past couple weeks.]

Kaoru! You're back.

[Of course Hikaru would immediately go to Kaoru when he saw him. Even if he's started to get closer to other people too, Kaoru was still the most important.]

Yeah, I'm back.

[He smiled slightly, he was glad to be back if he had to be perfectly honest. Home schooling was boring during the time he was away.]

Sorry that I left suddenly though. I felt bad about having to.

Kaoru?

[ Oh man, it was him. She'd heard that he'd gone home for a while, though she didn't know why. He'd kind of been off the radar for a while, hadn't he?

It doesn't take Adela long to approach him, smiling and waving in greeting while she did so. ]

Hey. How're you doing?

I'm doing fine, much better now at least.

[He rubbed the back of his head slightly. It was certainly an experience and one that he hoped wouldn't happen again for a long while.]

At least now I can continue being here again, though. Kind of missed people while I was away. [He paused for a moment.] How are you anyway? Anything interesting happening?

Nah, nothing much. I just feel like my head's going to explode from all the class work...

... Well, there were a lot of new ghosts hanging around here for a while. Quite a few were pests, and they even got classes cancelled on the day of the Halloween Masquerade. The dance went all right, though.

Ah... Guess I missed quite a bit... Shame.

[He pouted slightly, but it wasn't a true pout because within a spilt second he was smiling again.]

But sounds like the part might have been a lot of fun, shame I missed it though. Bad luck on my end.

Well, there'll be more parties. You should've seen the mask Hikaru was wearing though.

[ She smiles in return when he does, nodding to him. ]

It was nice, but we did miss you there. It's good to see you back here, Kaoru.

What mask?

[Now he was curious about that at least.]

It's good to be back. Weird even though it's been a couple weeks, but good. Really needed. But I have to ask about my brother, was he okay the whole time?

It was really colourful, a jester mask. Pretty fun to look at, not the sort of thing I think I'd see him wear normally.

[ She took a moment, thinking it over. ]

... He got pretty grumpy at points, but he seemed all right for the most part to me. It's still been fun just to hang out with him.

Oh! Yeah, I think I know the one your on about.

[He couldn't say for sure though. But he was at least glad he had been okay for the most part.]

That's good, so long as he was moping too much, it means he's at least doing much better than he was a year ago. A year ago it would have still just been me and him against everyone else. [Which now was extremely weird to think about.]

I hope he keeps getting better and better at not being around me so much.

... I guess he has changed a lot, hasn't he?

[ Adela seems thoughtful for a moment, unaware that she might have started wearing a surprisingly more smile. ]

It does feel like he's been smiling and having more fun more often, doesn't it?

A lot more than I expected to be honest. Hes still clueless to things more than likely, but he is getting there. He just had to learn differently than I did.

[He was just always aware of it for the most part. He couldn't help but notice however as a grin spread across his face.]

Has he been spending all his time with you?

[ ?? ]

Don't know. I mean, I spend a lot of time studying or practising for Quidditch, but when I'm not I spend a lot of time with him. I couldn't say if he spends all his time with me or not...

[ ???? ]

Why?

Yeah, that would pretty much be his way of spending all his time with you. I did it from time to time wi... [He was extremely quick to stop what he was saying. It was still a touchy subject for the most part, but also because it made him wonder something.]

Ah, never mind. But it's interesting to know he has some interest in spending time with others. [At least in a friend way at the moment, he can't really tell without seeing it firsthand. But he was positive that would come off as creepy.]

Although it sounds like it's just you for the most part, which is interesting.

[ That just confuses her more, and she frowns a bit at him while looking him over. ]

... Right.

[ Well, no point in letting it bother her too much. She'll shrug and move on from there. ]

Well, like I said I couldn't say because I wouldn't know for sure.

Well if you are ever want to know something let me know, okay?

[He smiled slightly.]

I might take you up with that when it comes to classes, I feel like my brain is about to leak out of my ears some days.

Uh... I guess I can do that as well. I mean I am good at classes.

[He was he was at least proud of that fact.]

But do you even take the same classes I did when I was a fifth year?

Well, I'm assuming we've taken all the same cores, and I don't really need much help with Ancient Runes or Care of Magical Creatures at least.

Well that's good. Though I did do Care of Magical Creatures when I took OWL's.

Though why did you take Ancient Runes?

I wanted to learn as much about the magical world as possible, and I thought that would help with that.

Like... The magical world was entirely new to me, so I want to learn all I can about it. Its history, how everything works, maybe even discovering something new.

[ She looks ahead again, thoughtful as she thinks it over. ]

If I can't make it as a pro quidditch player for whatever reason, I think diving fully into research might be something I could do after school. Travelling the world, seeing everything it has to offer and all that. I might even do that in the off season if I'm good enough to make it as a pro quidditch player.

Just like the muggle world was always strange and new to me. It's why I still take Muggle Studies... And kind of learn more while I was away.

[Not like he had much else to do while being down in the dumps.]

You have a great dream and one I am sure you'll be able to achieve. But that is just me saying it so don't take it to heart or anything.

Oh yeah, that reminds me!

[ Adela's face practically lights up when she pulls out the cell phone that she got from Gareki, and she immediately turns it on to show it to him. ]

I've already showed Hikaru, but someone managed to make electronics work here -- including cell phones!

Make electronics work? Why would we need something like that?

[He did sound curious about it even with the wording. Mostly because he knew it was something different also.]

[ ... Oh right, she had to explain why it's such a big deal to Hikaru too. ]

Well, owl mail can go really slow if you want to talk to someone far away, right? And it's not as good as hearing their voice or seeing them in person, even if a letter can be really personal.

Muggles have invented technology that allows them to talk to each other from clear across the world, and it's only gotten better and better over the years. Now that someone's managed to make this technology work with magic, wizards will be able to use it any time they please too. For example, if we wanted to talk to each other over the summer, it's as simple as tapping the buttons on the screen a few times for phone calls or text messaging.

[ For a demonstration she's going to text Hikaru, who to her knowledge is no where near there right now. He shouldn't be in class so it shouldn't be a problem, right? ]

[Kaoru looked over, leaning in pretty close so he could check it out. It was interesting if he had to admit it and learning something new was always fun, even if confusing to begin with.]

So it's a quicker way than normal wizard ways? I assume this was something you are very much use to considering?

Well, I wasn't old enough for a phone when I started going to Hogwarts, and there was no point after -- I lost contact with all of my old friends after.

[ She's going to try and hide that that particular subject is actually very unpleasant for her, considering what happened then... But who knows, maybe she can't hide it from Kaoru. It doesn't hurt as much anymore, at least. ]

But it's something almost every muggle uses these days -- it's hard to find a person who doesn't have one. It's not hard to learn either, but they do come with instructions if you need them.

I've been told you still need to sign up with a muggle carrier if you want it to work with their phones and that has a fee every month, but with the way they're made for wizards now you just have to register the person you wish to talk to with their phone as well and you can talk and message as much as you like without worrying about that.

[And she lost him a little bit if he had to be honest, then again phones are confusing to the young man. Plus there was a lot she said he had to take in, which wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do.]

Okay... I think I got it. Think being the word here though... [he paused for a moment.]

It helps with the whole distance thing, right? Just to clarify.

It should. If they work like they're supposed to, I could be in Italy, you could be in Japan, and it'd be as simple as pressing a few buttons.

There's another thing I haven't shown you yet either that helps with that, just a moment.

[ She fiddles around with the phone, and suddenly it's showing a feed of the ground before them. Another press, and it's showing what's in front of the phone -- namely, Adela and Kaoru in the same frame. ]

It can take video as well -- moving pictures with sound and -- and show you to the other person in real time, and them to you if you want it to. It's not quite being in the same room, but it's as close to face to face as you can get without it actually being face to face.

[He was still rather quiet. He kind of wished this had been a thing before he had left. But he at least accepted that sometimes things like this do take a while.]

I think I get it now at least. Seems simple enough anyway. But that could just be me.

[He goes quiet for a moment, thinking about something.]

Thank you for at least explaining it to someone who isn't use to that kind of thing.

[ Adela nods, and she puts the phone away for the time being. ]

You'll want to talk to Gareki if you want to know more. He's the one who sold this one to me, actually.

[He nodded for a moment, pausing for a moment. He had one thing on his mind as he looked around.]

Adela... Can I talk to you about something while no one is around?

[ ??? ]

Uh, sure. What is it?

Has Namine spoken to you about anything that recently happened?

[He knew if she hadn't asking this question would bring about her own questions, but he knew better than to pretend when she was close to the other.]

[ She sighs, rubbing the back of her neck because honestly she didn't think Kaoru would bring it up... ]

... I won't talk to anyone about it if you don't want me to. It's between you two, so it's up to either of you to share it.

[He figured as such. It was the most obvious of all obvious things.]

It's actually why I went home in the first place. So... I would appreciate you not mentioning it to Hikaru at all. He doesn't know and I don't want him to.

[He looked over slightly.]

Even if rumours might spread because Namine is popular after all, being the Queen of the ball and all.

I won't mention it to Hikaru.

[ She nods, giving him a little bit of a sad smile. He really does care about Hikaru a lot... Honestly she's surprised with how kind and caring Kaoru is when he's on his own, at least from what she's seen. ]

You're my friend too, so I'm not going to take sides with it either if that helps any -- though from what I heard that probably won't be necessary.

Thanks. I know I should tell him though, but I would rather do that when I am ready.

[He smiled slightly rubbing the back of his head.]

I never would have expected you to, honestly. That would be unfair and wrong for me to ever surgest. But it wouldn't anyway, it was on an understanding. Still hurt, but I understood.

... I'm sorry, Kaoru.

[ Her smile falls and she holds her arms to her body then, uncertain of what else to do or say. It's not like she has any experience in this stuff, and she honestly thought they'd be good together. Even if she's pretty sure her own feelings have faded, seeing Kaoru like this still sucks. ]

There anything else I can do other than keeping it a secret?

[His sad look changed quickly, letting out a slight chuckle. Sure it was going to take a while to truly get over it, he knew he was over the hurdle that was it hurting as much as it did.]

You don't need to do anything else, silly. So long as you don't ever hurt Hikaru. That's about all I can ask.

Well of course I'm not going to, not if I can help it anyway. He's my friend.

And that is always good to know.

[He smiled slightly.]

But I'm glad your his friend honestly because I know I can trust you to not hurt him just by saying you won't.
