5th throwdown | a lot of closed action

Closed to Rin & Adela

[The truth about his injury had made Sousuke make a few decisions. One was that he would continue pursuing his dream. This was made possible with the help of Sano and Madam Pomfrey. How things would turn out were still not completely clear, but at least he had the spark to try again. The other was apologizing and telling everything to the two he had hurt the most in the past few weeks.

Knowing how Rin would most likely react to the news, he didn't want to talk to the guy alone. Instead, he called both Adela and Rin to meet him at the same time - hoping both of them would answer his call, but also half-expecting at least Rin would not. He had made it very clear that it's important, but he had hurt Rin very badly with his lies and deceit.

Yet, he also had small hope that he would come to listen what he had to say. The same for Adela.

So he was waiting for the both in an empty class room near the Great Hall. It wasn't the most secretive of places, but there were spells to make the conversation more closed off. Now he just waited to see if either of them would come around.]

Closed to Nagisa, Kisumi, Gou, Tokiya

[After telling everything to Rin and Adela, Sousuke was determined to find three of his other close friends and the captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team. With these four, he wasn't as afraid of meeting them alone. None of them were hot-headed like Rin and wouldn't attempt to fly to Japan to punch Sousuke's father. Yet he felt like he needed to explain the news to them as well.

So wherever he was able to find one of them alone, he either called out to them or touched their shoulder to get their attention before asking:]

[For any open action. Recently Sousuke's been either in his own thoughts or reading books on curses and counter-curses - possibly to investigate the curse on him or planning a revenge curse on his father.]

[Kisumi's day had been very good so far. The boy had been hanging around with some of other Hufflepuffs, had met new people and one of the teachers had complimented the essay which he had written earlier. It was almost impossible not to smile for Kisumi.

Kisumi was reading a book when he felt someone's hand on his shoulder. The boy was very close to yell because of the surprise but then he heard a very familiar voice behind his back. The smile on his face widened even more because usually it was him who went to talk to Sousuke. He was going to say it out loud too but the tone of the other's voice made Kisumi to keep his mouth shut. He didn't smile anymore because something told him that something bad had happened. He nodded, feeling how his heart had started to beat a bit faster.]

Sousuke?

[Sousuke sat down near Kisumi and looked at him. The expression on the boy's face was a mix of a calm before a storm and a small dose of desperation. While he had already known the facts for a while, it was still hard for him to accept any of it. At least not without feeling depressed.]

I just received news about my injury. The real state of things. I wanted to find you and tell you what's going on, since you looked so worried the other time.

[Kisumi didn't like that expression. It was more than clear that something bad really had happened to his friend. So as soon as Kisumi heard Sousuke's words, he felt something cold in his stomach.]

What.. is it?

[Kisumi had to admit that he was scared to hear the answer.]

[ Honestly, it was surprising to get the note from Sousuke. Surprising and confusing, but Adela did make the effort to come to the empty classroom. There wasn't practice after class, and she didn't really do much outside of that and staying on top of her studies. Maybe the occasional socializing with her group of friends, whenever possible, but...

Something told her that the reason Sousuke wanted to talk to her was more serious than just a friendly call. It took all of her self-control to not let hope spawn, because she was pretty sure Sousuke wouldn't change his mind. It still felt like it was her fault that he had quit too, if she hadn't said anything he might have still been on the Slytherin Quidditch Team... She really needed to learn when to shut her mouth.

The girl knocked on the classroom door then, waiting a moment before opening it to see if Sousuke was already inside or not. ]

Hey.

[When Rin had received the note, the first thing he had done was to rip it apart and set it on fire. He had not a single ounce of patience and will to deal with Sousuke and was determined to ignore the request entirely.

That mindset lasted about five minutes.

Rin can't believe himself, when he makes his way to the empty classroom specified in the note - that he just skimmed through it, and yet managed to remember, speaks volumes of something he'd rather not think about - wondering why on earth he's doing this to himself. Sousuke is an asshole who should beg Rin for forgiveness, the redhead is convinced of this. Ever since their argument Rin has avoided Sousuke, sleeping mostly in the room of requirement, speaking only the most necessary words, without even looking at his friend. He wants to let Sousuke know how upset he is, because that bastard deserves it. That's all. It's most definitely NOT because Rin is hurt and has been close to crying whenever Sousuke tried to talk to him. And he MOST DEFINITELY HAS NOT CRIED, when he was alone, hiding in the room of requirement. It's JUST that he thinks Sousuke deserves a taste of his own medicine. Ignoring your friends... avoiding to talk to them honestly...

And yet... Sousuke said it's important. Rin wouldn't be a good friend if he ignored it just because he's angry. If something is wrong, and he just ignored it, he'd never forgive himself, no matter how much he hates it. Him and his sentimentality. One day it will be the death of him, he's sure. But no matter what happened, no matter how Sousuke lied, or hurt him... they're best friends. So for now, Rin decides to be the bigger person - besides, he figures he can gloat later about it - and enters the classroom by not banging the door open, but close enough. He notices he's not the only one there besides Sousuke and clicks his tongue. Damn bastard and his pacification tactics. Wordlessly, he walks into the room, aware of the two sets of eyes staring at him and leaning himself on the windowsill, crossing his arms, he turns to face Sousuke, but still avoids looking at him.]

What do you want?

[Sousuke's relieved to see them both arrive at the classroom. It really wasn't a set thing they would both come. Especially with now how annoyed Rin had looked after their fight and the way he kept ignoring him. All what he felt like he deserved, but it did hurt. Even the way Rin was avoiding to look at him was like a strike at his chest.]

I need to tell you something. It's about my shoulder and my decision to quit, because... there has been some new development and you both need to know.

[Before he'd get into the story he looked at both Adela and Rin for a set amount of time, before leaving his eyes wonder elsewhere, taking a few deep breathes.]

My injury isn't natural. It won't heal because of a curse that was put on me when I was at the Mungos for the first time.

[ Only the smallest part of her wants to say 'I told you so' but, thankfully, she has the sense to keep it to herself.

What she doesn't keep to herself is the shocked expression however, and she stares at Sousuke, as if expecting him to quickly say that it was a joke or something like that. A curse placed on him, while he was in St. Mungo's...? In the hospital...

She feels a little sick at the implication, that at the place he was supposed to heal his injury was made worse. She'd been worried about Rin's anger, sure, but right now this is taking priority in her mind. ]

I... I didn't.... I didn't think it was natural, but you were cursed in the bloody hospital? [ She's seriously hearing this correctly? That brings up the questions of how and why, but she needs this confirmed first. ]

[Rin is completely determined to play the sulky princess the whole time and barely bites back the 'Get on with it' when Sousuke first starts speaking. But then they come to the matter at hand and everything Rin felt until now dissipates into thin air, as soon as Sousuke starts talking about his injury and how it came to be. All of his annoyance, disdain and hurt are replaced by anger and fury, because FUCK THOSE SHITHEADS SOMEONE WILL DIE. HOW DARE THEY?!

His eyes snap open wide and he stares at Sousuke in disbelief.]

Excuse me, WHAT?!

[He exclaims, because hurt feelings aside, Sousuke didn't lie when he said this is important, because yes this is IMPORTANT. More important than Rin's anger, because this isn't about Rin anymore, this is about Sousuke, who had been cursed by a bloody healer. It doesn't even come to his mind to question those words, to ask how in the hell he figures that, because he believes his friend, strange as it might be, after what has happened.]

What the bloody fuck? Why do they do that?!

[Sousuke waited silently for the first reactions to cool down a bit. Both reacted the way he thought they would. If it had been only about this he would be as mad.]

Sano confirmed this at St. Mungos. With some mixed up luck, we had the same healer. He was also able to confirm the reason.

[It's at that moment where Sousuke's eyes darken. They're filled with plenty of hurt feelings.]

My father planned it. My father had me cursed.

[ Adela can't even find the words for how she feels about this anymore. She's stunned, staring at Sousuke because... Well, what is she supposed to say?

She wants to help, to fix it, but... God, she can't say anything. His father did that to him? Caused that curse to be cast on him, injuring him, forcing him to give up on being a pro... It really makes her feel sick.

She glances to Rin briefly, then to Sousuke again. Is there really anything she can say or do? Probably not, but... Holy shit. ]

...

[Rin's jaw goes slack and opens wide. For a moment he's completely speechless.]

Your... you... your own father?!

[His mind wanders back to his own father, to what little memory Rin had of the man, of the bright smile and arms large as the world, boisterous, happy laughter and to how much he adored and missed him, still sometimes today. And wonders. Wonders if this is something a father does. Placing curse on his own kids, just because they don't do as he liked.

Rin feels sick. Shell-shocked. But most of all he feels so so bad for Sousuke. Between Rin's father dead and Sousuke's such a huge pile of a douche, which one of them had the shittier situation? It doesn't matter.]

I'LL RIP HIS BALLS OUT AND MAKE HIM EAT THEM!

[Sousuke doesn't say anything for a while. Mostly he's waiting for this second storm pass down a bit, but he's also trying to find the words to continue. There are still important things he needs to say, even if just talking wouldn't make things better. He knows that, but he needs to talk.]

The next thing I say... please listen to it until I finish.

[Is it more bad news? Not really. He waits another moment for possible protests or added comments before talking again.]

One of the only reasons I was so hesitant to look for a cure for my injury was a promise. I promised to my father that I would quit Quidditch after graduation and wouldn't even try to enter the pro league. Now that I know about this, that the man is the cause and knew about this curse when he made me promise, there's no need for me to stick to that promise.

So I'm going to try again. I will pursue my dream of becoming a pro. Madam Pomfrey will be aiding with getting my shoulder fixed.

[He then lets out a sigh before bowing before both of them.]

I'm sorry about everything. For lying and for being the worst friends I could possibly by, arguing against your good wills. I know just apologizing probably doesn't fix anything, but I really do regret being such an idiot.

... I wish you would have told us about the promise. Maybe... Maybe it'd be easier to understand if I knew about it, that's all I can say for me.

[ Her shock finally fades into something a little more solemn. It's strange that she doesn't feel angry then, just looking at Sousuke. Maybe she should be as mad as Rin, wanting to exact revenge on Sousuke's father but... She's not sure she can be with Sousuke there, right now. ]

... It can't have been easy to talk about, or face. I'm sorry, Sousuke.

More like he made you promise just to get his way!

[Rin scoffs, but Sousuke isn't finished yet. Well, at least his best friend could hold onto his dream again. Rin's glad for him, he really is, except now that this entire nightmare is over and Sousuke is bowing to him and to Adela, it all comes back to Rin. How he had stuck his nose where it didn't belong, said things he didn't mean in a tone that was unnecessarily harsh and inappropriate, only to walk out and slam the door on his best friend. On the one person who knew him like no one else. And spent the rest of the time ignoring him, even in spite of Sousuke needing his support.

Damn, he had acted like a first class asshole, hadn't he?

Rin is resolutely looking at his feet, like the black of his polished shoes holds all the solutions to his problems, while rubbing the back of his neck. His stomach feels like he swallowed a giant rock. Apologizing is hard.]

No... I... I knew nothing and it wasn't my place, or right to yell at you, and tell you what to do and what not to.

[One thing is feeling betrayed, the other is listening to your friends.]

I should have listened to you instead, I... [He finally raises his head to look at Sousuke, eyes reflecting sincerity. He's never been good with staying angry for long. No, he just sucks at admitting his mistakes and apologizing. Well, that is changing, as off today.] I'm sorry.

[Sousuke straightens up and offer a small, tired smile to the both of them. The time he had been in bad terms with Rin had really been harsh and he hadn't really talked Adela either. So being able to talk to them, even if it had to be a topic like this, was a good thing. It really made him felt relieved and, well, happy.]

I understand why you reacted that way. I... wasn't being honest. I didn't want to drag my parents into any of our arguments so I kept quiet about it and made it look like I didn't feel anything about Quidditch anymore.

[It was stupid. Especially now, when he had basically been betrayed by his father. What was he even trying to do, keeping the fact hidden?]

There's no way I'm giving up on my dream again and... I hope I'll have your support to go through this fight. You're both very important to me.

Like you need to ask.

[ It's the only thing she doesn't have to think about. He wants support in going for the pro league? He's got it. Again, she doesn't know what the hell happened between Sousuke and Rin, but she can't imagine him saying no after all that. After he swallowed his own pride and apologized too. ]

We've got your back, Sousuke. We'll help you see it through.

Che. Like I would ever believe that.

[Sousuke's been as long going on about quidditch as Rin remembers them being friends. No way he'd ever believe it became unimportant.]

Just tell me next time straight out. I've always got your back, you know that.

[He says, but instead of the usual bite the tone is softer, more like he's backing down to leave room for Sousuke. Because right now, Sousuke is important. And what he says is true, he'll always have his best friend's back. Always. When there's trouble, they'll figure something out.

He raises his balled hand, extending it towards Sousuke.]

Forgiven and forgotten?

[Sousuke grins a little sheepishly at Rin not believing, the smile still not leaving as he holds out his hand for the usual fist bump.]

Yeah. It's good to have you two at my back.

[ She can't help a more broad smile at that, nodding to Rin and Sousuke before she crosses her arms over her chest. The smirk that pulls at her face probably seems a little too cocky, considering what she said next. ]

I wonder if you two will make me regret being happy for Sousuke now, or if Slytherin will even be a decent challenge for us in Quidditch now.

[ ... Yeah she knows she's being a brat, they'll probably react accordingly, but at least they should know she doesn't mean anything by it right? ]

[With Sousuke's smile and the familiar weight of his friend's fist, a wave of relief washes over Rin. He hates arguing with Sousuke like this, but they still do it. However, they always make up and that's the good thing. The bad thing is how mushy it makes him feel. The sting between his eyes gets harder to fight and his underlip starts trembling and Sousuke's still smiling damnit, stop doing that! Look away you bastard!

But then Adela quips in and distracts Rin enough to forget he's about to bawl and give her a sharp look.]

You! We will own the court with you, just wait!

[Sousuke will just happily laugh at the two's exchange. This would definitely be a fun Quidditch season; as would the next ones be, clearly.]

You can try! Just make sure not to let me shut your chasers out!

[ She can't stop a laugh at Rin because of that reaction. It feels good to joke with them, and... Well, for things to feel back to normal, to the point where they can afford to be a little silly. ]

[Nagisa had put the book to the side, he really hated studying. he knew his parents wanted him to get a good career, but he just didn't like studying hard for something he wasn't even sure that he wanted to do. With the light feeling on his shoulder, it was enough for his to turn his head slightly.]

Ah, Sou-chan! What do you want to talk about?

[Sousuke sat down near Nagisa, his face looking more serious than it usually does. There's a lot of complex feelings resting in him, but he tries to ignore them for now. He really needs to have this talk.]

You remember that I talked to you about my injury that one morning. There's been development on that front.

Yes. I can recall that.

[Development. He wondered what he meant by that. It made him a little curious.]

What development?
