3rd throwdown | of future and revenge

Solo practice; Closed to Nagisa; morning

[Sousuke had felt restless in the early hours of the morning so he had decided to leave for the Quidditch fields to practice some. It was the perfect way to get his mind off things - even when his mind was full of quidditch related angst.

Unfortunately, practice wasn't going very well. After being in the air and practicing some swings for a while, he had felt a jolt of pain and had to make an emergency landing on the ground. There he was, lying and staring at the morning sky and breathing heavily.]

Library; right after classes

[As opposed to the last time we heard of him hanging out in the library, this time Sousuke is actually studying. With career counselling nearing and his condition not getting better, he needs to start figuring out what to do with his life and actually study to be able to choose something he decides.

On the floor there's a letter from his father with attached pictures of famous aurors and some articles that "might interest him". Clearly it's decision making time when the head of Yamazaki family starts making more and more attempts at pushing Sousuke to the "right path".

After some time, Sousuke will just give up on trying to remember any more transfiguration things and eventually just naps.]

Warning for violence

[Sousuke had been cornered by three guys - one of them who was a guy he had punched and sent to hospital wing two years ago (there were stairs involved) and the other two were apparently his very good friends; the ex beaters of the Slytherin team. Even if he was at a disadvantage, he didn't seem all that worried.]

Is today some sort of a closet cleaning day for all bent up revenge and hate feelings?

[The first had a good reason to be angry still (even if Sousuke had been made apologize), the second was thrown out of the team because Sousuke came back and the third was take off the team because Sousuke brougth Baldur in. Some very good reasons to be angry.

It seems it was also a good reason not to talk and get their fists to do the talking. Sousuke mentally shook his head and dodged one of the punches by moving out of the way and another by blocking it with his hand. The third guy he just chose to trip as he approached.]

Guys, none of us really want detention right? So just back off.

[They could just walk different ways? No? Fine. He could use this as a chance to relieve some frustration as well. Sousuke lets himself deliver a punch to one of the guys who was already attacking again. Of course, he can't defend himself from all sides so he's prepared to get at least one punch on himself.

A punch, not a spell that knocks him down on the floor. Hey, that's cheating in a fist fight. Sousuke's not fast enough to react and get up before he even gets kicked on the side. Oh great. He does react and kick at one of the guy's feet to knock him down and as he's getting up, he'll tackle another. That's two down - now where's the third-

Ah. Right there, shooting another spell at him. What's going to hit him next...?]

[Sousuke sits down on his bed, looking at Rin from there and flexing a little at some of his sore muscles.]

Sano caught us.

[For a moment Rin is torn between relief, amusement and the feeling on wanting to cry.]

You and your luck. Candelabras?

[Coaches favorite punishment. Something about 'manual work shaping the character', or whatever. Looking at Sousuke, Rin isn't so sure about that. With a sigh he sits down next to his friend, watching the guy. The way Sousuke rubs and flexes his shoulders is suspicious and Rin gazes at it with worry.]

Did you hurt your shoulder in the fight?

[He's already reaching for the cloak, intending to take a look.]

Not this time. A week of Potions and a written warning...

[To be honest, he'd rather do candelabras, even with his shoulder like it was. Potions just weren't his cup of tea, so to say. It would be hell in a whole different way.

Rin reaching for his cloak makes Sousuke automatically grab it so that he can't pull it off. Highly suspicious, but he can't help it.]

I didn't.

[Rin whistles in awe. Wow. That ought to be a first one. Rin never heard of coach giving a written warning. No, actually he never heard of the guy giving a single warning ever. It's somewhere in the same line with the improbabilities such as Filch smiling at a student and Peeves passing you without a prank.]

But hey, at least you might finally actually learn something?

[He suggests with a teasing grin, his own way of trying to cheer Sousuke up.

The next moment he's frowning again however, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. Yeah, right. Like he'd ever believe an obvious lie like that. He doesn't need to be a legilimens to figure out that one.]

Bullshit. Show me.

[He's pulling at the fabric, struggling with Sousuke, but still careful to avoid hurting his friend even more, when finally the fabric falls off, the sight making Rin gasp and halt in his movements. There's an eerie sense of a dèja vu. This has happened once already. And that shoulder didn't look one bit less red than now.]

Fuck Sousuke, I thought you said it healed!

[There's just a look at that. Ha ha. Very amusing, Rin.

Sousuke does try his best to stop Rin, but seeing as his best friend isn't about to back off, he finally gives in and lets him see the shoulder. Somehow, his expression is now even more tired than before. It really feels like an encore of the past - except this time it would be different.]

If I didn't say that, you wouldn't have let me play anymore.

[Before Rin can say anything to that, Sousuke looks at him straight to the eyes. Since it's come to this, even if Sousuke is not ready for this conversation, he will explain everything. Nagisa was first to find out besides Sano. Maybe it was the start of a chain reaction.]

And you can't stop me now that you know either, because the matches I'll have in school will be the last ones I will ever get to play.

[The amount of things Rin feels at that moment is overwhelming. Shock, from seeing that injury again, pain and ache for his friend's suffering, disappointment and betrayal for being lied to, for not being told again. Apart of him understands his friend, his reasons, another part is stubborn and hurt, a third one can't believe all that stupidity that one guy can produce.]

Sousuke you bloody RETARD!

[Rin stands up, hands grabbing at his hair, taking a few long paces through the room, before stopping, his back turned to Sousuke. To say he's upset is an understatement. He's angry, angry that Sousuke didn't tell him and even worse, lied to him, angry at himself that he didn't notice right away, angry because he can't even be angry, because if it's really over - and judging by the way that shoulder looked, it really is - then he can't even argue with Sousuke.]

You... you... You always do this! You selfish asshole!

[Turning around on his heel, he faces Sousuke, all of his anger exploading, as he yells from the top of his lungs.]

First you wreck your shoulder, then you say it can't be healed anyway and WRECK IT EVEN MORE, and I'M SUPPOSED TO ACCEPT IT JUST LIKE THAT?!!

[With tree strides he's back in front of Sousuke, grabbing his best friend by the collar.]

I OUGHT TO PUNCH YOU!

[Because Sousuke is giving up his dream, once again, giving it up for what? A few more games that he'll play? A few hours in the air, maybe? If he came that far? Rin aches for Sousuke, feels the treacherous burn of tears behind his eyes, which makes him angry even more. Why does he always feel like crying after he screams himself out?! It's so damn childish, but not this time. He won't let Sousuke comfort him this time, no. NO!!!]

You're such a selfish bastard it physically hurts!

[Sousuke is calm as Rin starts yelling and pacing around. It's a reaction he expected. Of course Rin would be mad. He knew this and he still made the choice of lying and not telling him what was going on. Sousuke would have to agree that he's a selfish bastard, but what's done is done and now... he was ready to come clean. Yet he wouldn't give up on being on the team.

It's also a familiar feeling of being grabbed from the collar and a thing he also expected. After Rin is done with yelling, he will put his hands on Rin's.]

Listen, Rin. I'm doing this because I want to enjoy Quidditch while I can. The healers in St. Mungo's said that while they can heal my shoulder to some extend, I will never be able to play as a professional Quidditch player.

[He swallows. It's hard to admit it out loud over and over again, but he has to.]

I need to completely give up on my dream. So before I'm unable to play at all, I want to play as much as I can. And I will not let you guys down. I will play even if it means wrecking my shoulder even worse.

[Wrecking his shoulder, his entire body, if only for a few more games. Because every game could be the last...]

[Give up on his dream, unable to do what he had always wanted... What was always so much joy and fun, ever since they were kids, playing around on their toy brooms. Rin's heart aches for his friend, and he squeezes his eyes shut as they fill with salty tears, in spite of his best efforts to suppress them.]

You're just giving up!

[Rin refuses to acknowledge it as a truth. The healers were wrong!]

I have no other choice but to give up. They did everything they could. Mungo's has the best healers there is. What more do you expect me to do?

[Rin shouts through his tears.]

Aren't you always the stubborn one, who refuses to do as others say?! You're giving up, because some know-it-all healer told you, you won't make it! What does he know about you?!

The limits of my body. That's what they know! I could continue trying all I want, but the end result is still the same they say! What's so hard to understand about that?

[Rin growls, because having limits? That's such a cheap excuse.]

[He yells shaking Sousuke.]

Raising limits will only postpone the end result!

[Sousuke just attempts to take Rin's hands away from his collar and push the guy further away so he could get up from the bed.]

[Rin feels himself be pushed away from Sousuke, but clings to his shirt all the more, refusing to give in. One bloody overtrained shoulder and St. Mungo's gives up on it? No way Rin will just leave it at that!]

THEN WHY POSTPONE IT, IF YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT'S IT GONNA BE?! IF YOU HAD WANTED TO GIVE UP QUIDDITCH, YOU WOULDN'T BE STILL PLAYING! WHEN HAS BARELY PASSING BY BECOME GOOD ENOUGH?!

[Sousuke could do so much more with his shoulder okay, but apparently, his best friend doesn't realize how he's degrading the sport he loves. And himself.]

Because I have promises to keep and I don't want to leave regrets behind.

Regrets?! Like the one when you lied to your best friend?!

[There's the burn behind his eyes again and his chest contricts. Sousuke is being terrible and stubborn and is giving up, and it hurts Rin. Because he hadn't, or had refused to see it, because Sousuke deliberately kept it from him and lied to him, because he wasn't a worthy friend to know - yet again, because Sousuke has so much talent and is still giving up, while Rin can only struggle, fall, crawl back up and fight again. But Sousuke doesn't look like he should change his mind and Rin feels he#s about to cry - DAMN. IT! - so he releases Sousuke with a hard jerk.]

Fine! Have it your way! But don't come crying to me later!

[And with that said he turns on his heel and stalks out of the room, slamming the door on Sousuke.]

[It's very close that Sousuke says he's sorry right before Rin leaves, but he keeps his words to himself. Something like that isn't enough to fix this. There's no way apologizing would correct betrayal.

This was his decision and he needed to live with it. Though he never meant to hurt anyone, which is why he hid it in the first place.

... but maybe that's where he went wrong in the first place.]
