O w l e r y ;

[The chill of the building is what woke Louise up. She was still a bit blurry eyed yet, but she was certain that she was lying on the ground somewhere. Picking hay out of her hair, she let out a yawn. Why was she.. out of her bed? It was cold, but she wasn't as cold as she thought she should have been. Looking off to the side, she was clearly not in her room anymore. So why was she so war--

And there she saw him. Wrapped up in the arms of a blue and white parka was a familiar face. Her first instinct was to let out a surprised yelp. So that's what she did before breaking out of his hold. No. He had to be... a ghost.. but....

She got up to see where she was and that's when she realized.... This place did seem familiar.... She'd been here before.....]

A r o u n d t h e c a s t l e ;

[After the initial shock and then realizing that they'd been here before, Louise realized how Saito was even here. She may have come to terms with that, but she was still pretty upset about what had happened last. She was glad that he was alive, but even still, the actions he did to protect her and stop her from fighting like she had planned, she was still a little salty. So she wandered the castle while trying to get warm again and avoid the obvious issues. It was cold and there was snow sparkling on the ground outside. When they were here before, it was still pretty warm out. Just how long had it been....?

Feel free to bump into her at some point in the castle.]

[Saito seemed oblivious to his surroundings, having been rather accustomed to Louise making him sleep on the floor from time to time. So he was just sleeping rather contentedly, a happy and goofy looking smile on his face as he rolled over into the spot where Louise had been lying mere moments before.]

Snrk... Louise... I'm ticklish there...

[Whatever he was dreaming about he certainly seemed happy! Maybe it was because even subconsciously he knew she was there with him, and actually being cuddled up together without interruption? That was something that seemed hard to come by for this couple.]

[All she knew was that while she was happy to see him again and.... being back here again, she's heard the explanations... It was still... hard to deal with. Looking over to him sleeping yet, she gave a melancholic look his way. She should be happy. He was alive, but.... that was just because they were at this place again.... When and if they returned home again, he wasn't going to be there. He wasn't going to come back... She was still going to be mourning his death in her room with her older sister not understanding how she felt.

It was a stab in the side to her... What was she supposed to feel besides the obvious emotions? It seemed so simple, but it was much more than just feeling sad or happy... it was much more complicated than that and having a surge of emotions was making it all the more confusing...]

Saito....

[His face looked slightly troubled in his sleep... something wasn't quite right. There was a hint of a frown on his face in his sleep, but why? He slowly blinked his eyes open, and saw Louise looking down at him with a look that wrenched his heart just a little. It reminded him of the joy and sorrow of that little wedding ceremony they had, which was also a goodbye. They both knew an end was coming, but they loved each other, and wanted to share that in that moment. Why then was he thinking she had those same mixed feelings of sorrow and joy now? No one was going to die any... more...

Then he remembered... he died... and if it weren't for the two of them being here he'd be dead again. He was a ghost, a phantom, here warm and real beside her, but a ticking time bomb that she never knew when he might fade away back into nothing but a faded memory.]

[He shook his head, sitting up and doing his best to be happy enough for the both of them, because when he died he was certain he would never get to see her again. He reached out and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, smiling a warm but weary smile.]

Good morning my...

[My master? My wife? My Louise? My zero? So many names were associated with Louise, but there was only one that he wanted to use right here and now.]

Love.

[No matter how many times he had to die, no matter what world they found themselves in, and no matter what obstacles lay between them, she would always be the one he loved most of all.]

[That melancholic look she had been giving him while trying to establish what to really feel changed slightly once his hands made it to her shoulders. Deep breaths weren't working, because rather than calming her down, all that they managed to do was make her whimper a bit. It was like her breath was caught on something as the tears formed in the corner of her eyes.

He was really here, but all of her pain and sorrow was flowing back regardless. Soon, she didn't respond back with any words. Instead, all that came out were tears as she to control herself. As she tried to stop crying, with no success. They wouldn't stop running down her cheek. After a little while, she was barely able to make out something...]

Saito... You idiot.... Why...?

[Yup... that pain was still there. It hurt deeper than those hundreds of sword slashes, and arrow bites, and incinerating flames he'd endured to buy her the time to escape. He'd still betrayed her on a certain level, stealing from her the death in battle she was foolishly going to dive headlong into. He was a selfish bastard, but he'd be selfish no matter the cost if it meant keeping her safe.]

I've told you before Louise, and I'll tell you again. Because I love you.

[That hand on her shoulder soon wraps around it, pulling her against his chest in a warm hug.]

You can hate me all you want for it, you can whip me, beat me, turn my hair into a human torch, but I will always protect you no matter what. Even if I have to protect you from your own pride.

[He hated war. He hated dying. He hated dying IN war. So there was no way in hell he'd let Louise go through something that scared the hell out of him.]

[She was shaking slightly by this point. She'd given up on trying to stop her crying because it wasn't working anyways. She knew why he did it and even if that was the case, it was hard to just accept it. She was going to go on her own so that he didn't have to deal with it. So that he could be happy with the others and maybe find a way back home again. To go back to his family that must miss him terribly. Everything she did to try to protect him... Everything that she did to do what she felt was right.... All of it was cockblocked by him and the others around her. And as if being the zero of the school wasn't bad enough, no matter what she did mattered.

She was full on sobbing into his chest now, clinging to his parka. She should be happy that he was alive. That he could hold her like this and say the things that he was saying, but it's not like she could simply play the "ignorance is bliss" card here.]

S...Saito.... [There was a pause between her sobbing.] Don't you... ever do something.... like that again. Don't you ever leave my side again, because I.... I can't take it...

I can't just say that you're just a Familiar like my sister wants me to. I can't just pretend that you didn't mean anything to me.

You're the most important person in my life.... and I don't know what I'd do without you in it anymore.

[It was a wonder she could get this much out, but hurt feelings getting blurted out was hardly that unbelievable. It just poured out of her mouth as she hit a hand against his chest.]

[He didn't care anymore. Japan, university, his friends and family that likely already thought he was dead... none of it mattered anymore. Not unless he had Louise. Henrietta, Louise's sisters, father, and mother, he'd never be able to face any of them ever again if she'd died. He couldn't bear losing anyone else he loved, not after Colbert who meant more to him than his very own father. He was trying to be strong for both of them, but there were a few silent tears in his eyes.]

Then you have to promise too... this is a new contract between familiar and master, man and woman, zero and dog. No more noble sacrifices, no more selflessness to try to protect one another. You and I, we live or we die together. If there's an unstoppable foe, we run together or we fight to our last breath, making sure we both make it out!

[He hugged her tightly, shivering at the tears he was trying to staunch.]

I can't promise you a lifetime of nothing but happiness with me, and I know our time together may be fleeting, but I'll keep trying no matter what it takes to stay by your side. Nobody ever knows if they'll randomly get struck by lightning and die. Life is a fleeting thing that you have to cherish as much as you can while you have it. Colbert taught me that.

[He kissed her forehead, before smiling through his weary tears]

I'm the Familiar of the most incredible girl who's ever lived, and if anyone can change fate it's us. I'll find a way home with you, even if I have to build a portal to Tristain with my bare hands. So no more death, no more dying, and no more sadness. Promise me, by renewing my contract as your familiar once more.

[Louise was quiet as he spoke. Was it out of respect or because she didn't know what to say? Or maybe she did and nothing would come out. She was at a loss of words. She discredited herself a lot. Maybe a lot more than people really saw? She was certain that Saito probably saw 60% of the time that she did this for, but he didn't see everything. Every time she did, she'd always come up with some excuse or reason to at like it wasn't true. She had to... If she gave in every time she second guessed herself, she would never be able to do anything.

She knew all this one way or another, but actually hearing it said again obviously affected her. She clung onto him tightly, tears rolling down her cheeks.]

....Okay. I'm sorry...

[It was all she could manage to say right now, but shortly after...]

We'll... be okay. You're not... allowed to ever leave my side. [Maybe sounds bossy, but it's actually said softly. She pressed her lips against his gently.]

[Seth, as always, is wandering around because there is nothing better for him to do. He spots the pinked hair girl and smiles remembering her arrival. He raises his hand in the air and waves.]

How have you been princess?

[Oh, she did vaguely remember talking to Seth. He had helped her when she first arrived...]

Oh, hello... Seth was it? [That was probably a bad question...] Strangely enough.... not much better from before.

[Seth just nods his head. He doesn't mind if she had forgotten his name. That's one of the reasons he called her princess.]

Haven't been making friends?

[He raises an eyebrow and as tactless as his words are his tone is at least soft and kind.]

No... Not yet.

[Seth chuckles softly and lightly places a hand on her head.]

You will.

I suppose so. Dealing with the same issues is always a blast....

[Seth doesn't really talk to new people often and could relate to her efforts.]

At least it's nothing new.

[Not helpful Seth.]

[Michiko wandered the castle often, trying to see what it was like. However she was quick to stop when she saw someone she hadn't seen before around the school.]

Hello.

[With her wandering around the castle aimlessly, she didn't even know where she had even gone. It didn't really seem to matter to her right now. It took her a moment to realize someone had just spoken to her, but shortly after.]

Huh? Oh. Hi there.

Are you lost or something?

[Which seemed like a really odd question to ask since she assume they were a student here and probably have been there for a while.]

Oh well... No I guess I just.... wandered here. [. . . . ] I'll be okay.

Are you sure?

[She wasn't so sure.]

Uhh... Maybe not....

Then I guess you need help, right?

Y... Yeah...

[Pinkie Pie had never met this one before and so was interested to meet them. After all she enjoyed meeting them.]

I've never seen you around the castle before. So are you new, did you just arrive? Tell me, tell me, teeeellllll me.

Which house are you in? Hufflepuff, Gryffindor or Ravenclaw...For some reason I don't see you as much of a Slytherin, but I could be wrong.

I'm in Gryffindor. [At least she remembers that much.]

Oh! The brave house of Gryffindor~! Were you trying to find the common room, or class... or something else?

Oh uhm... The common room. [The stairs are still a trip....]

Well you have a long trip to go since it's in a tower. Want me to walk with you?
