[Today was his birthday, which meant he was eighteen officially now. Which meant he was officially an adult in this country. At least he was at legal age to drink now. Not that he ever planned to. As he sat down at the table to get ready for the meal of the day, he spotted an owl that came flying through the window and landed right in front of him. As he reached out to take what the owl had and the owl flew off, he could see there were a couple of cards and presents for him.

It was enough to make him smile at least as he knew it was from his family for his birthday.]

[After breakfast, Makoto had gone about like it was a normal day. Went to the few classes he had and when he hadn't he was studying for when NEWT's would come around. He knew they were in a few months time. When he wasn't focused on his studies, he could be found outside looking at his birthday cards and reading the letter he had gotten with them. The presents he had kept back in his dorm room.]

[Namine smiles brightly.]

Is it your birthday?

[She moves over to the boy noticing the cards and the gift.]

I wish I knew. I would have gotten you something.

Uh, yeah. I've turned 18 today.

[He smiled slightly, it was just another reminder that he was in his final year at this school. It will be weird when he graduates.]

You don't need to have gotten me anything though.

Are you sure?

[Her head tilts slightly.]

I'm sure. While getting something is nice, being around people is usually better. That's why my family got me a few things, so it's close enough for me to feel like they are here.

[Namine's smile brightens.]

That sounds really nice and Happy Birthday.

[In case she forgot to wish him a happy day.]

Thanks and it can be. Like my family got me a photo album with pictures.

[He opened up the album and it was obvious right away that it wasn't a moving kind of picture but a normal muggle picture.]

That's amazing.

[She looks over at it.]

Everyone looks so happy.

That's because we are a happy family. Even if I am the only one who isn't around any more due to having to go to school here.

[He frowned slightly for a moment.]

Well come the holidays you'll be able to.

[She smiles encouragingly.]

Hopefully, even more so after school is over though. I'm in my final year after all.

[Still feels weird saying that though.]

Really? That's amazing. Do you know what you are going to do when you graduate?

[Namine wants to go into art.]

I have ideas, but nothing positive as it is not a given.

[So he was keeping his options over.]

I guess it depends on your NEWT's too.

[Next year she has her OWLS and she's a little bit worried about it.]

It does, a lot of jobs would take those into consideration.

[But at least exams won't be a thing afterwards so that was always a positive.]

But for my birthday, I won't worry about any of those things.

[It didn't occur to her that today was Makoto's birthday until noticing the package-owls at breakfast. Until a while ago she hadn't known he was even around, after all.

And with the situation as it was, it seemed awkward for her to scrounge up a present since he didn't recognize her. But should she do something anyway, as a once-friend? What an uncomfortable situation.

She notices Makoto in the hallways, browsing through his birthday cards, and decides that she might as well drop some nice words. Her Makoto would've tried the same for her.]

Happy Birthday. Do you feel one year more mature?

[He had closed the cards, reminding himself to place them in his room by his bed when he got the chance as he looked up and only just noticed the other when she spoke up. He should really pay more attention to where he was going while walking.]

I pretty much feel exactly the same, but thank you. Does one turning 18 mean one is meant to feel different though?

[She chuckles softly.]

Probably not. You might feel different more gradually, though. There're many new things on the horizon.

[It depends on the environment, likely. When she'd been 18 Dangan Ronpa was happening, and that felt very different from the years before.]

[He couldn't help but smile slightly, there were so many things, she was right after all.]

I hope so. I mean growing up is normal after all and I look forward to it, even if it makes me a little bit nervous.

[That's such a painfully Naegi thing to say, that she can't help but smile at his optimism.]

Do you feel any more prepared for that Auror post?

[Now she's slightly teasing.]

[Just because he's a year older... he really doesn't feel any different about that either.]

I-I don't know. I am more nervous about it, though. Don't think that is at all prepared.

[Way to get a reaction.]

Keep working at it. You'll get somewhere eventually.

I hope so. But what about you? When we talked about jobs before, I forgot to ask about what you are planning on doing when you've finished. I'm sure it will be something interesting.
