Mayu is sitting at the Ravenclaw table, enjoying an easy to consume meal, when an owl drops a red envelope in front of him. He tries to ignore it, but another student tells informs him about the tendency for howlers to explode. That student opens it for him. The loud, booming voice of his father is heard throughout the Great Hall.

"Mayu! Happy Birthday!

Why haven't you texted me? A letter is so old fashioned. Don't worry about not having cool powers yet. I'm sure you'll get awesome special moves with training! Show me when you come home!
"

There's a moment of shock before Mayu lowers his head to the table. How does his dad even know about howlers?

Mayu's older brother made and sent a lot of cupcakes. He isn't sure how he managed to mail them, but he's willing to share.

I heard the letter in the hall. Is this because of that?

[He's never celebrated his birthday and while he understands the practice he doesn't really get the traditions. They've changed so much.]

[ He would rather just spend the day sleeping. His birthday isn't a big deal, despite his father wanting to announce it to the school.]

[ Mayu nods, and offers some to Seth.]

They're good. Older brother made them.

Well, what kind of cake do you like?

[She smiles at him with a warm glow.]

[ He mostly likes food that's easy to eat.]

Now we just need party hats and streamers... who do you want to invite?

[ He doesn't really care. None of his friends from home are around, and he hasn't really bonded with anyone in Hogwarts.]
